  • Now, may the peace that surpasses all understanding be yours

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Dec 12, 2013

In church on Sunday, Pastor reminded us that, although this is a joyous season and we should celebrate, it is also a season of repentance and forgiveness. Who wants to think about past digressions and apologizing when there are gifts to be bought, wrapped and given. Parties to attend and food to eat. Oh, the food. But this is not about the frosted cookies of life. This is about the spinach. The green beans and brussels sprouts of life. Some may like the taste of spinach, but I would be willing... Full story

  • Student of the Week: Taylor Kirkbride

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Dec 12, 2013

As an A student that scores as high a mark on the sports field, you would expect a boisterous, self-involved youth to greet you. Not Taylor Kirkbride, son of Jeff and Jami Kirkbride and senior at Burns High School. The sly smile hides a heart that beats strong for his family, friends and sports. "Many of us have played together since grade school and growing up with friends helps a lot," Taylor grinned explaining the unique dynamic that exists on the Burns teams. As the oldest of six children...

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Dec 12, 2013

The Burns Broncs traveled to the Tiger Jamboree knowing they were deep in experience and unclear who would take the point lead. After three games into the season, the Broncs have a better understanding of how they will play off each other's talents and experience. "We are off to a nice start with a 2-1 record," Head Coach Sean Patterson said. "We understand the season is very early and we have a lot of areas that we need to improve on." Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Dec 12, 2013

The Lady Coyotes traveled to Highland High School for the Canine Classic Tournament to start its season. Head Coach Samantha Ramos is in her first year of coaching the girls. Given the experience she can draw on from seniors Emily Ellis and Afton Zitek, Ramos shouldn’t struggle all season long. The first game ended as a loss for the Lady Coyotes against Frontier Academy, 39-52. Pawnee hit the courts again Friday against University, and showed Ramos how the Lady Coyotes usually play b...

  • A legacy of giving joy

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Dec 12, 2013

When Chuck Lyons' father, Basil "Bill" Lyons, began bringing cheer to the community of Pine Bluffs during the Christmas season, Chuck probably never thought the legacy of joy would be passed on. Bill was a member of the Lions Club in Pine Bluffs, and Chuck isn't sure how his dad got the job of wearing that very special suit each December. But he is sure how he stopped wearing it. "My dad was looking for someone to replace him," Chuck said. "I guess I worked pretty well, I lasted about 20...

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Dec 12, 2013

Have you ever had one of those days where you just want to go crazy? A little off the wall behavior sounds completely normal to you? Good news, my friend. Today is your day. It is National Ding-a-Ling Day, a day to “Ring your Bell.” Not that we want you to steal the Salvation Army’s bells. No, this is a day to do what you normally would never do. • What's beyond your fence?

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Dec 5, 2013

As I was driving to work, I noticed a bull standing close to his fence gazing longingly over to the other pasture. Now, if you were raised with even a smudge of country on your jeans or "genes," you know he wasn't admiring the greener grass on the other side of the fence. He was looking at the cows. I would take the bet that this bull has not gone "without" his whole life. He most certainly knows how to work a corn field, if you know what I mean. Otherwise he would have been a steer or under...

  • Christmas at Home 2013

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Dec 5, 2013

After filling their bellies with chili made by Rick and Estelle Wagner at the Pine Bluffs Fire Department fundraiser for the department, the crowds enjoyed the sounds of Mannheim Steamroller on the streets downtown. Eight open houses busied the crowd as well as the wreath and gingerbread house bidding. If anyone was in the shopping spirit, vendors and businesses had plenty to chose from. The Bell Choir amazed young and old alike with their white gloves ringing the shiny golden bells. Leading...

  • Athlete of the Week: Pine Bluffs Junior High football team

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Dec 5, 2013

There is something fascinating about young athletes. And something more intriguing about undefeated young athletes. Just looking at the Pine Bluffs junior high football team, you couldn't tell they achieved something most teams only dream of. Going undefeated. The Hornets have five eighth graders and 12 seventh graders. The size and experience vary as much as the wind direction in Wyoming. But they all brought something unique to the team. "Team effort," the boys yelled. "We never gave up and...

Keep the home fire burning, it will soon pass. Maybe not to sunny and 75, but pass nonetheless. The Albin Elementary Christmas program is scheduled for Tues., Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. Please...

Those attributes will help fine tune the Lady Broncs. “We have a lot of returning experience,” Ward said. “We are also fortunate to have a big interest in basketball at Burns and many girls will be playing this year.” With 32 players and many of them returning letter winners, Ward has the...
