  • Burns/Pine Bluffs wrestlers find themselves in superior position

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Dec 5, 2013

Two wrestlers from Pine Bluffs join 25 from Burns to combine weights and mat time for a formidable wrestling team. Coach Dan Clayson is no stranger to success on the mats, taking wrestlers to state, and bringing home medals. "We have a few hot freshman and a solid group of returning competitors that should qualify for state," Clayson said. The Burns/Pine Bluffs team faired well at state last year and has set a goal to improve. Clayson brought 10 grapplers to state in February, all returning...

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Nov 27, 2013

Editor’s Note: A few weeks ago, we starting digging into the core curriculum of LCSD 2, the Wyoming Content and Performance Standards and how the two interact and work off each other to educate our students. One of Laramie County School District No.2 Teacher of the Year recipient Lisa Gilbert’s many gifts of her profession is recognizing what the students need and adapting her teaching style to work for the student and not against them. The Wyoming Content and Performance Standards are the sta...

  • Student of the week: Mandi Amend

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Nov 27, 2013

After the buses left Pawnee school and almost all of the students had gone home or gone to after school practices, Mandi Amend was found in the computer lab working on homework. Each week, the Pine Bluffs Post staff asks a principal from one of the area schools to give us their candidate for student of the week. We rotate schools so everyone gets a chance to be recognized and spotlighted. So, it would be rare for a student to be named twice. But Mandi was named as student of the week last year,...

  • Simplicity has value: A review of 'Keep It Simple'

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Nov 27, 2013

What if I told you the core values to finding a better more meaningful life was in 130 pages of a quick read book? What if I told you the values would probably fall in-line with your beliefs and that they came from two local men? You might want to pick up a copy to see how simple meaningful could be? Steve Bahmer and Ron Rabou have done just that. The book came after years of spending time together, realizing what was important to them and others by talking to groups on how to be "more effective... Full story

Happy Thanksgiving! How nice it is that we get a chance each year to take time to say "Thanks." Albin may be small in size but mighty in gratitude and reasons to be thankful. We have new equipment thanks to our town council and money from different funds. We also received a new ambulance to help us when we fall down or get sick. Our museum is completed and looking good. The school is teaching and helping our students learn and grow every day. The community center has provided entertainment for...

  • Smoke from a distant fire or poor air quality

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Nov 21, 2013

A few months ago I heard someone talking about the Environmental Protection Agency or the Department of Environmental Quality checking Wyoming's air quality. The test was very scientific. These scientists stood in one location, Location A, and focused on another point, Location B. And they did this random times over a few months span this summer. Or so I heard. The report from this very resourceful and intelligent study was that Wyoming's air quality was "poor to very poor." They could barely...

  • Albin News

    Monte Lerwick and Charlene Smith|Nov 21, 2013

Pretty nice weather for the end of November. The geese were flying over towards the south on Monday, so I guess this, too, will pass. Word on the street is this will be a harsh winter. Maybe I could lasso one of those birds and camp down south for a while? Thanksgiving is upon us, a week from today as a matter of fact. Make sure you remember all the blessings in your life. You might not want to say all of them before eating Thursday, due to the food getting cold. But remember, even if you can...

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Nov 21, 2013

Pine Bluffs third grade teachers Wanda Theobald and Michelle McCormack have brought many classes to the Pine Bluffs council meeting to get a taste of the process of local government. On Monday evening, however, the class showed up to a room filled with concerned citizens. The evening's agenda had a few hot topics unusual for the council's agenda. The students still came away with an idea of what a town council does. One student said, "They listen to the people and talk to them about what they...

  • Different digits for assistance

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Nov 14, 2013

For a while now, the dispatch for emergency, police and fire calls have been going through the Laramie County Combined Communication Center in Cheyenne. And the transition, albeit some hiccups, has gone well, "It is still a process of transition," Pine Bluffs Police Chief Robin Clark said. "The biggest thing is using addresses whenever we talk to dispatch. They don't know where 'John's' house is." Clark added her officers need to adapt and say they are at an address rather than "Exxon," since... Full story

The Burns elementary showed up later and helped honor, with their voices, the 40 local Veterans present. The service time varied from two years to 35 years and all the branches of the military...

By 9 a.m. 20 voters had cast their ballots in Pine Bluffs, and Albin had 2 before 9 a.m. Check on the county web site, http://www.laramiecountyclerk.com/elections.aspx for the...

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Nov 7, 2013

The Pine Bluffs council had an agenda heavy with invoices to approve Monday evening at their regular meeting. But it wasn't the invoices and the decrease in the budget that concerned the council. Mayor Bill Shain told the council the Wyoming Water Development Commission staff was not recommending the land and well water purchase the Town of Pine Bluffs was planning. "It might just be a political play by the director," explained Shain. "And we have had proposals approved without staff... Full story

  • Digging to the core of education

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Nov 7, 2013

Imagine your child's education is held in a sheet of paper. Now, imagine every child has to accept this piece of paper in order to receive their education. How would you make it unique for each student? How could you deliver the information? Is there any way you can change it without altering it from its original form. Imagine now, a paper plane floating through the air to a student who learns by seeing. Imagine a paper boat being blown across a table by a student who learns by doing. And imagin...

With Wyatt Berg out due to an injured ankle and others on the team limping to the sidelines, the Broncs lost their tell-tale rhythm that served them eight v...

It was a little dark and spooky Sunday evening. No, no goblins were the cause. They had their fill of tricks and treats at the Albin Community Center Fall Festival Saturday night. The electricity went out Sunday evening for about four hours. No word yet on the why, just glad the "powers" that be got it fixed. Happy Belated Birthday, Ron Lerwick! He turned 60 and there was a sloppy joe pot luck at the community center last Sunday evening in his honor. Corn harvest is in full swing, lots of down...
