Cynthia Shroyer, Editor, Pine Bluffs Post|Dec 13, 2012

It was a slow start to the season for the Pawnee Coyotes. Facing three opponents last week, the locals lost to Highland on Tuesday 67-57, then fought through two overtimes only to come away on the losing end of a 53-47 score against Frontier Academy on Thursday. • Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

Cynthia Shroyer, Editor, Pine Bluffs Post|Dec 13, 2012

Yay! My favorite time of the year is here! I can finally play Christmas music without guilt or funny looks from others. I am a huge fan of Christmas music. I have a station dedicated to it on Pandora’s Internet music site, and I organized my CDs so all my Christmas music was in one spot and easy to find. I have tried to analyze why it is that I love this season, and I’m not sure I’ve really gotten to the heart of it all. But I have a fairly decent grip on it. I love winter. Summer is too hot.... Full story

  • Christmas trees and faith of our very own

Cynthia Shroyer, Editor, Pine Bluffs Post|Dec 6, 2012

I have had a Christmas tree of my very own for a few years. It was a long time coming. In the past someone else has been kind of in charge of the trees in my home. From kindergarten to middle school, my family lived in a home with a family room (translate TV room, pool room, Atari room, etc.) and a living room where mom and dad could visit with their adult friends while my brother and I played or watched TV in the family room. Having those two rooms meant we could have two Christmas trees. The... Full story

Cynthia Shroyer, Edititor of Pine Bluffs Post|Nov 29, 2012

No public comment or agenda requests were made to start out the Burns Town Council meeting Monday night. The meeting started and ended with reports from Laramie County Sheriff’s Office representative Bill Thomas reporting on law enforcement activity in Burns. “Efforts have shifted to Albin lately, Burns has been quiet,” Thomas said at the outset of the meeting. Thomas had no further report until the end of the meeting when he asked for a moment to remind drivers about bus safety. “We’v... Full story

  • A Christmas message of a different sort

Cynthia Shroyer, Edititor of Pine Bluffs Post|Nov 29, 2012

For some weird reason my thoughts have been on this children’s book “Push, Pull Empty, Full” the past couple days. I used to teach pre-school. That book by Tana Hoban was one I used to read to my “kids” to teach them opposites. I personally still have a problem with those concepts. I push on a door that clearly must be pulled open. I pull people who maybe need a little push in the right direction. I see my glass as half-empty, rather than half-full. Or I see my life as too full of stuff and...

  • General Election results

Cynthia Shroyer, Edititor of Pine Bluffs Post|Nov 8, 2012

Laramie County made its choice for president Tuesday, but it did not match up at all with the rest of the nation. If the rest of the county went the way of Laramie County Mitt Romney would be sworn into office in January after winning over 60 percent of the vote. US Senator John Barrasso won his first, full six-year term and US Representative Cynthia Lummis beat her challenger for the states’ lone seat in the House. Locally, Wayne Johnson retained his seat in the Wyoming State Legislature for S...

  • Goblins and Games

Cynthia Shroyer, Edititor of Pine Bluffs Post|Nov 8, 2012

Children gathered at the Pine Bluffs Community Center Wednesday night for the annual Halloween Carnival. Games and snacks were interrupted by a fire alarm set off by a fog machine, but the fun continued unhindered once everyone was allowed back in the gym. Recreation director Sonja Fornstrom got in on the fun with her costume, arriving on the scene as "Aunt" Fester....

  • Board Unity message of LCSD2 candidates to voters

Cynthia Shroyer, Edititor of Pine Bluffs Post|Nov 1, 2012

Monday night students from Burns and Pine Bluffs junior/senior high school and the Eastern Laramie County Education Association hosted a candidate forum for those who are running for seats on the Laramie County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees. The resounding theme of all nine candidates was that the board must be unified in board decisions and that the board is not the go-to entity when someone has a problem within the district. Esther Davison is the only person running for the seat in a...

  • Time for change

Cynthia Shroyer, Editor, Pine Bluffs Post|Nov 1, 2012

That phrase has been bandied about for most of this year as the voting public has been subjected to months of political ads on TV (thank goodness for DVR!) and in the mail (which goes in the circular file). The candidates are almost done trying to tickle our ear to earn our vote. Wouldn’t it be nice if true change were to occur and our ear wouldn’t get tickled, but instead we were told the truth? We all know the economy is not what we want and need it to be. We all know insurance is a mess, soc...

  • Pawnee Coyote gridiron win bittersweet

Cynthia Shroyer, Editor, Pine Bluffs Post|Nov 1, 2012

The Pawnee Coyotes notched a victory Friday night, but the effort was not without some pain on both sides of the field. Taking the field against the Arickaree Indians, the Coyotes outscored their opponent 65-32. Both both teams also lost. “It was another bittersweet win,” said Coyotes’ coach Doug Miller. “Zeb Durst ended up breaking his tibia.” That happened in the third quarter. “Actually, it was like nothing I’d seen in my coaching career,” Miller continued. “The quarter before that, an A...

  • Casting your ballot … and your cares

Cynthia Shroyer, Editor, Pine Bluffs Post|Nov 1, 2012

I am writing this about mid-morning Tuesday. I started my public day with a trip to the Pine Bluffs Community Center with my daughter so we could vote. She was a bit apprehensive, not sure she had a good grasp of all the issues and candidates for office. It was a fairly lengthy ballot, so I could understand how she felt. Leading up to Tuesday we were subjected to hour after hour and pages and pages of political ads, and news articles telling us what rotten thing which candidate had done or...
