The United States Marines turned 242 years old. They celebrated in Pine Bluffs with a ceremony and the placing memory bricks for fallen veterans. Following the ceremony, veterans and their families were invited for a meal along with beverages and desserts. The Hornets football team concluded this season with back to back state championships to their name. Additionally they completed this season undefeated. The Mighty Hornets won 11 games including the championship game. This team is a great one. You don't achieve titles such as state champs and undefeated by being an individual. Dave Duello is a well seasoned cattle rancher in the Pine Bluffs area. The ranch he works is better known as Duello Cattle Company. His main focus as a cattle rancher is to produce a specific quality of cattle. The Duello Cattle Company has only been around about 10 years. Last weeks game Pine Bluffs vs. Upton-Sundance was a tough one. Not only was it a chilling 36 degrees at kick-off, but both teams were evenly matched in the sense of player's skills and abilities. What a fantastic game! For hosting the first home playoff game since 1949 the Hornets did not disappoint. Pine Bluffs boys played hard and left no room for mistakes. The Hornets had scored three touchdowns in the first 8 minutes. The score was 21 to 0. "I dont think we could've played any better or been more prepared this week, we had the mentality that Saratoga was going to come out play and hit hard but we knew we needed to play and hit just as hard if not harder. Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets fought hard at the Regional tournament. They played well most times but every once and a while it got the best of them. Securing State for the 8th year in a row the Pine Bluffs/ Burns XC season comes to a finish. State for Cross Country was held in Sheridan, WY at the eye appealing VA hospital grounds. The boys team ran at 11 a.m. and the girls at 12:30 p.m. due to rotation of having the second race this year. Before each state race the teams like to start with a team workout. During the home game against Glenrock the Lady Hornets lost in 5 rounds. "Unfortunately we allowed our mental errors to affect our ability to play," stated Coach Lisa Gilbert, "but they will be working very hard to fix their unforced errors." Although the Lady Hornets lost they still played hard and gave it their all. All players have their own specialties and strengths.
