The 2021 high school football season has come to an end but the Pine Bluffs Hornets continue their winning ways in the conference and state awards. Ten players were chosen to the All-Conference team with four more making Honorable Mention. The Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets volleyball team played the Glenrock Herders team in a conference match up. They were enthusiastic and energetic but were not able to overcome the Herders. They did take the match to the limit and played all five games but in the end they ended up losing 3 -2. The Hornets lost the first game 16-25. They came back in the second game and won 25-23. Burns' homecoming football game was held on Friday the 9th of October. Burns welcomed Upton-Sundance to the city. While it was a week of homecoming festivities and celebrations, the Broncs suffered a 54 to 14 loss. Burns had a hard time getting things going on the ground. They rushed 25 times during the game, gaining just 1 yard. The Pine Bluffs varsity football team played on Friday, 9th October at home in Pine Bluffs and the local crowds were not disappointed. The Hornets ran up another victory against the Wright Senior Boys football team with a 29 to 8 victory. On October 2nd the Wheatland football team visited the Burns Broncs for a Friday game. The Wheatland team was just too much for the Bronc’s as they played their way to a 53 to 0 victory over the hard playing Broncs. The Bronc’s ran the ball 33 times for a total of 54 yards. They did not have any better success in the air as they passed the ball 11 time completing 4 for a total of 34. The Wheatland defense was just to strong for the Burns offence. Volleyball is under way and last week the Lady Hornets had their chance show their stuff.. The Lady Hornets hosted the Lingle Volleyball on Thurdsday 5 Sept. and then traveled to Yuma, Colorado on the Sept 6 to play the Yuma team.. Southeast against Burns The Burns Basketball team headed out last week to face the Southeast Varsity team. Burns gave a valiant effort but wound up on the short end with a score of 30 to 44. The Lady Broncs gave it a valiant effort but came up short at the end losing 32 to 46 against Southeast. The Broncs only managed to score 6 points in the first quarter to 14 by Southeast. The Pine Bluffs boys continued to dominate the southeastern conference with a score of 74-22 against the Lingle Doggers. The Hornets entered the gym to "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns N' Roses but, that didn't stop them from taking over the game. Last weekend the Burns/Pine Bluffs wrestling team competed in the Bison Bonanza Tournament. The Burns/Pine Bluffs wrestling team had a rough tournament. Losing all 5 matches to the much stronger and experienced wrestling teams. As Christmas day draws closer many of us are planning the traditions that we grew up with. Whether it be the Christmas dinner, Christmas Eve festivities or the way that we open and give presents. These traditions keep us intertwined with our families and past. It may be a tradition that was started generations ago or something that you just started a couple of years ago but these traditions keep bringing families together. Wrestling season is finally here and the team is pumped up and ready to go. Pictured above is the 2017/18 Burns Pine Bluffs Wrestling Team. December 8 started the Charles Lake 2 day wrestling tournament in Cheyenne. This meet was attended by numerous teams from across the area. Burns Pine Bluffs, Glen Brook, Sidney, East, South Torrington and Sidney just to name a few. It looks to be a very exciting tournament. This is just the start for this young team. Diana Sanchez is the lone female wrestler on the Burns Pine Bluffs wrestling team. This is her second year on the team. She wrestles in the 150 lb category. When asked how she did last year Sanchez said, "I think I did ok". She too was looking forward to the season but had some concerns. "I think that the other wrestlers were a bit bigger this year" she stated. Sanchez is the first female wrestler with the Burns/Pine Bluffs team. The Burns Bronc Basketball Varsity team started the tournament with a bang. Taking the first 2 games but losing the last 2. Coach Patterson said, "We learned a lot about ourselves this weekend, this was another great learning experience for our team". The first game pitted the Bronc's against Moorcroft. In a close game between our Pine Bluff Hornets and the Upton/Sundance Patriots, the Hornets proved again that they are still and will be the team to beat. With an all out team effort the Hornets beat the Patriots by a score of 28 to 14. However the game was not as lopsided and the score would seem to indicate.
