This is the fourth year for the Conner Graves and Tyler Morgan Memorial Cornhole Tournament. Trail Days is the perfect time to host this event as both Conner and Tyler were local members. Conner Graves was an all-state graduate of Pine Bluffs High School. Tyler Morgan was an all-state graduate of Burns High School. Mud volleyball is growing in popularity. The Trail Days tournament had 31 teams sign up this year, which was seven teams more than last year. Teams had a variety of unique names like, Wet Bandits, Slippery when Wet, John 3:16, Nacho Average Squad, Off in the Woods and Ball Busters. The Pine Bluffs Trail Days Covered Wagon Car Show was a huge success. Over 30 cars, trucks, motorcycles and rat rods owners showed up to display their hard work and results to a crowd of over 100 grateful spectators. Awards were given to the best of show, people's choice and some specialty awards given by Jeff Weller. Jeff Weller has been doing this for the last 14 years and the event has been growing. On Saturday the Pine Bluffs Trail Days Horseshoe pitching tournament was held at Reher Park. It was a clear blue sky, and the temperature was baking. The stifling temperatures did not deter the enthusiasm on the contestants. There were 28 pitchers comprising 14 teams. Teams were picked at random by the computer. The Pine Bluffs Roping Club held its seventh roping event of the 2024 season last Friday night. The event held at the Pine Bluffs arena drew more than 45 ropers in what could be called the dust bowl of the season. The event was the sixth 10.5 handicap event held this season and had a total of 106 teams. This was the largest number of teams this season. Pine Bluffs Trail Days kicked off with the 24th annual 5K/1 mile Longhorn Stampede Fun Run/Walk. The event started at 7 am on Saturday at the Pine Bluffs Community Center. The start line and finish line were both at the center. All total there were 45 contestants signed up. Ages ranged between eight years old and 69 years young. Runners came from all over the area. Brody Cress is a Wyoming local that lived in Hillsdale and attended Burns Junior/Senior High School. Beau Scarborough, a Pine Bluffs High School graduate, qualified to compete in the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. Scarborough competed as a permit member and did very well. He did not finish in the money but just missed finishing in seventh place. His first ride scored a 70 and his second ride was a 74. Scarborough was then honored with a third ride in the rodeo. The heat did not sway the Pine Bluffs Roping Club last Friday as they had the first of two 12.5 handicap events. Sixteen ropers showed up for the event and produced 39 teams. The Tim Malm Junior Rodeo, could not be daunted by the raging heat that persisted last Saturday. The temperature in the arena was well over 100 degrees but the cowboys and cowgirls stood tall and ran their events with smiles and determination. One of the biggest events for Albin Day is the one pitch softball tournament. The tournament has 30 athletes that are divided into three teams. The team members each get a t-Shirt with the Albin Day logo and date and the color of the team that they are on. The teams are decided by chance as each athlete will pull a color from a hat and that is their team. This year the teams were yellow, orange and pink. Another fun event at the Albin Day celebration is the Horseshoe pitching contest. According to Kelly Krakow, the director of the event, "There aren't as many teams as there have been in the past. But this year there are more young players than there has been." Since the tournament was held later in the day the temperature was not as bad. The Pine Bluffs shooting team competed in Torrington, Wyoming on Saturday, June 30th, at the state championship tournament. The team did very well. Ethan Bomberger received the 25 Straight patch for his perfect round of 25 in the second round. Jim Zitek, the owner of Pine Bowl believes that bowling is a family affair. Jim, his son Chris and grandson Tristen all competed at state and national bowling championship matches. The Pine Bluffs Community Center hosted a bike rodeo last Friday. The event was attended by more than 22 young riders and their parents. The Recreation Department has been putting this on for about the last 30 years. The Pine Bluffs Roping Club kicked off its 2024 season with a Team Roping rodeo last Friday evening. The cows were fast, and the cowboys and cowgirls' ropes were looped and swinging. The event attracts ropers from all over the area, Cheyenne, Bridgeport, Carpenter, Potter and many other cities. Safe to say that the Broncs boys’ sports season for 2023-24 has had a rough time. The football team and the basketball team each only won one game in the season. The track and field team came up big bringing home six medals at state. For the football team, their only win would come on homecoming night against the Herders of Glenrock.
