With a 0-5 record the team was headed to Gillette for the Gillette Invite tournament with the hopes of breaking their losing streak and putting some marks in the win column. The Pine Bluffs Roping Club held its weekly team roping competition last Friday. It was a perfect night for the event and Mother Nature was smiling down on the group. Coming off the win against the Yuma Lady Outlaws the team was in high spirits and ready to put another notch in their belt. Sparky, the fire prevention mascot, visited the Pine Bluffs Elementary School kindergarten and kinder boost class last Thursday. Sparky was accompanied by Fire Chief Derek Walls and Firefighter Charlie Hastings. The day's events would include some instruction by Chief Walls and a chance for the kids to use the fire hose off the rescue unit. The Burns/Pine Bluffs cross-country team had their first meet on August 30th in Cheyenne at the Little America Golf Course. After a very disappointing season last year the Burns Broncs football team has begun the long process of rebuilding. With new Head Coach Travis Romsa, the Broncs have been working hard in the off-season to get into shape and bring along some of the new personnel that they have. The equipment may not be new but to many of the Burns Volunteer Fire Department it was new. The department has had small air bag lift capabilities for a while, but they have now been equipped with the larger and heavier lifting bags. According to Deputy Chief Brian Dolan, "The new bags give the department the ability to lift any type of vehicle that they might come across in their responses." The Pine Bluffs Roping Club had their second 12.5 handicap team roping event last Friday. The club usually puts on a 10.5 handicap event but for a couple of nights move it to a 12.5 handicap. Brady McKinney, a fifth grader at Burns Elementary School found gold at the Pine Bluffs Trail Days Junior Rodeo On Saturday, August 3. McKinney won the gold belt buckle in the junior breakaway event. McKinney has been competing for the past three years and is very good at it. He competes in the breakaway, team roping, and goat tying events. He started breakaway about three years ago.
