This month I would like to update you on a few projects in town that I mentioned earlier this summer. Work on the Prairie View Subdivision kicked off with a ground breaking ceremony on September 19th. It was great to see so many citizens and interested parties in attendance to help us celebrate this momentous day. I would like to recognize Kim Patterson and the Town staff for all their work in putting this great event together. Prospect Construction has been hard at work installing sewer lines, laying out roads and moving dirt. The Council has...
As the primary election approaches, I’d like to use my column this month to provide some information about one of the biggest campaign issues – property taxes. Wyoming residents have seen unprecedented and significant increases in their property taxes over the past two years (2022 = 35%; 2023 = 27%). However, in the two years prior, we saw decreases (2021 = -12%; 2020 = -11%). In fact, over the past ten years, we’ve seen decreases in four of those years, with two years resulting in substantial reductions (2017 = -10%; 2016 = -20%). Specifically...
June 24, 2024 I start this update by welcoming Leanne Person as the new Town Clerk. She joins us after a long tenure at the Pine Bluffs Elementary School and a stint at the Wyoming Energy Authority. Leanne brings a great deal of experience in problem solving and customer service, both of which are a great benefit to the Town Office. We are thrilled to have her and know you will help us welcome her in this new position. Pine Bluffs residents know that Wyoming has two seasons: winter and construction. Citizens will see many construction projects...
I start this update by again thanking the Pine Bluffs Post for the opportunity to inform citizens on recent developments occurring in our town. In January, the Town Council adopted revisions to the Charter Ordinance with regard to the election schedule. The filing period for candidates seeking municipal office is May 16-31. The primary election will be held on Tuesday, August 20th, with the general election to be held on Tuesday, November 5th. For each open position, the two candidates receiving the most votes in the primary election will...
Once again, the Christmas season is upon us. It is a time when we gather with family and friends to celebrate the many traditions that makes this holiday so special. We reflect on those we lost this year and find joy in celebrating with the first timers. We take the time to rejoice, relax and prepare ourselves for the new year. This is also the time when we reflect on all that we have accomplished this past year and think about our plans for the year ahead. For the town, this has been a year of completed projects, ordinance updates, planning...
The Town Council has been busy reviewing two ordinances that are of interest to residents. First, we have discussed, on two occasions, the camper parking ordinance that was approved a few years ago. The existing ordinance included many restrictions for campers that proved difficult to enforce. For example, the ordinance required residents interested in parking their camper by their house between trips to obtain and display a permit issued by the Town. Additionally, the ordinance only addressed campers, but not other trailers, or large...
It’s hard to imagine not starting this month’s update with anything other than the emergency our town faced a few weeks ago. While the Town issued a statement expressing gratitude to all involved immediately following the incident, I want to add my personal thanks to law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire departments, school officials, and our residents for their prompt reaction to what could have been a very dangerous situation. Specifically, Chief Smith, Sargent Kemp and Officer Miller demonstrated that we have a police force we...
I start this month’s message proud to be a citizen of Pine Bluffs that annually celebrates our many traditions associated with Trail Days. This year seemed especially vibrant with numerous activities that ranged over all ages and interests. The significant efforts of the volunteers are appreciated and applauded. One event I’d like to highlight is the annual brick ceremony held on Sunday at the Veterans’ Memorial Plaza. The American Legion Post 60 deserves credit for hosting a great event honoring those who have served and sacrificed for the f...
I begin this month’s message with some reminders for upcoming community events. The Pine Bluffs Police Department is participating in the 2023 National Night Out on August 1st. This organization “enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. It provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.” I encourage everyone to attend this event as we have combined it with the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Reher Park Playground. The event wi...
I start this month’s column by thanking two outgoing Council members, Bubba Ragsdale and Tom Mohren. Together, they represent 30 years of service to our community. Without this type of dedication, our town would not function as well as we do. I am personally grateful for their leadership and contributions to Pine Bluffs. While they will be greatly missed, I am pleased to welcome Dennis Michaud and Dave Crouse to the Council. I look forward to their contributions and ideas as we face future challenges. In addition, I’m excited to announce that o...
Two years ago, I was humbled to be elected the Mayor of Pine Bluffs. I want to thank the Pine Bluffs Post for giving me an opportunity to update citizens on the status of various initiatives being pursued by the Town. Going forward, I will be providing this update periodically in an effort to keeping everyone more informed about Town activities. First, I’d like to update citizens on the status of the development of the North Wells property. In the past two years, we have encountered numerous obstacles that have delayed our ability to fully d...
