Scammers will take advantage of anyone that they can, and oftentimes that means the elderly. On Friday, December 13th, the Pine Bluffs Senior Center hosted Edward Jones' Natalie Collins and Sarah O'Donnell in an attempt to educate locals on some of the scams that are out there. Getting taken advantage of is awful at any time of year, but sometimes the holidays can make it even worse. Edward Jones estimates that as many as 145 million people have their identities stolen each year. For the...
Despite the blowing wind and the bitter cold, several people showed up this last Saturday to honor some of Wyoming's fallen veterans in the Wreaths Across America ceremony. One by one approximately 1500 wreaths were laid in the Cheyenne Memorial Gardens to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for this country. The Worcester...
Ladies night at the Burns Library last week focused on Christmas ornament crafts. A cinnamon stick tree, a tree branch snowflake, and a nail polish glass ornament were on tap to be made by the ladies that braved the weather to come. The ladies at the Burns branch library would like to remind everyone that Ladies Night Out is a monthly event for adults only that features a craft and a snack. The Pine Bluffs Post would like to correct an error in the last issue where we mistakenly identified the...

While not everyone understands the language of computers LCSD #2 teacher Sara Schnell is doing her best to change all of that. Computers are not going away any time soon and the need for people who can write code is an ever increasing industry. A formerly male dominated field is now opening it's doors to both genders, and LCSD #2 is leading the way! "Computers are everywhere, changing every industry on the planet, but only 45% of all high schools teach computer science. Girls and minorities are...
Contrary to what Hollywood would tell you, death does not take a holiday. There is no time to get your affairs in order just before the big event, and although no one likes to talk, or even think about death it is important to have things settled beforehand. Many families have been torn apart fighting over what they think their departed loved one would want. It is essential to try to have all of these issues on paper and spelled out so that an already heartbreaking time doesn’t become something worse. When beginning to put your affairs in o...
Plenty of Pigs was the theme for this weeks Fun for Kids at the local library. Kiddos from the daycare center walked over to listen to library worker Mary Cushing as she read stories, led songs, and supervised a counting activity with pigs in mud. If you would like more information please contact Mary Cushing or...

With the holidays coming up some local families are feeling the pinch more than others. The pressure of buying gifts, cooking meals, entertaining family, and so much more can often be more than a person can handle, especially if that person is already struggling to make ends meet. The Shepherd's Closet at the Burns Town Hall is trying to combat some of that with just a little bit of a hand up. Open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The...

If you have been a longtime resident of Burns you may be familiar with the farm of William Riedel located at 2439 Road 146. What you may not be aware of is that there is a company out of Isabel, South Dakota called Equine Elite LLC that is trying to buy the farm to create an 80 acre, 5000 head wild horse adoption facility. While in name there is nothing wrong with having that type of facility in the area. There are three in the state of Wyoming at this time. The largest facility is outside of Rock Springs and it runs 800 horses on 24 acres. The...
Monday night's town council meeting opened with a discussion of resolution 2019-08, the garbage rate adjustment that was introduced several weeks ago. As mentioned in previous articles, the garbage system here in Pine Bluffs has been operating in the red for quite some time, and as a last measure council has approved a small rate increase to help pull it back into the black. Although there has been some talk about possibly privatizing, most feel that this would only succeed in causing an even...
Small town life is idyllic for some. The quiet, the clean air, and the friendly neighbors are an attraction for some, but what does that lifestyle look like for someone who is being bullied. In this second part of my series on bullying I will be looking at the difference in bullying in a small community verses a larger city. Pine Bluffs is a dream home for many that live here, but what does it look like to a child who is being picked on daily. Laramie County School District #2 (LCSD #2), like almost every other school in America has a set...
Derik Smith was born with pseudarthrosis of the Tibia and at the age of nine, after nine surgeries, made the decision to have his leg amputated so that he could continue to play in the sports that he loves. "It's football, not feetball, and I am going to play," Derik told his Mom. And play he does. Derik is a defensive and tight end on his varsity football team. He plays basketball, runs track, throws the discus and competes in the long jump. "Competing in football, track or any sport makes me...
