A new addition to Saturday's parade was a vehicle added to honor three fallen past members of the Trail Days committee. The cherry red Dodge Dart rode the parade bearing the names of the three past grand marshals: Jim Mueller, Shirley Lemaster Hall, and Kathy Mohren. Carolyn Winter remembers Jim Mueller fondly as a man who loved the rodeo. Jim spent at least nineteen years on the Trail Days committee, and, "Anything rodeo that popped up, we had to drop everything and help." Winter said. Jim...

If these items are found in your trash they will be returned to you. Ragsdale would like to point out to residents...
For the third year in a row "Off in the Woods" was able to pull out another win in the annual Trail Days mud volleyball tournament. A forty-seven game bracket in 90 plus degree temperatures made this no easy feat for the three time winners, but spirits were high, and everyone had a great time. With a Bloody Mary bar that was almost a meal, and Silva's Traveling Grill and Catering providing everything from burgers and fries to tacos there was no lack of food and drink at the Pine Bluffs...

The lights go black and the smoke rolls out as the first riffs of the guitar peal out of the darkness. Suddenly the lights flash and the live performance you paid good money to see starts giving you goosebumps. While no one would deny the sheer joy of loud music in the car or in the house, nothing compares to the feel of the bass in your chest during a live show. Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, Randy Houser and Walker Hayes did not disappoint. For almost 3 hours for each show these artists sang...
In true melodrama tradition this years story will deliver liquor, love, and gun play in only two acts. In my journey to learn more about the POW camps that were located in our area I have begun to explore the Nebraska connection. Throughout World War II there were approximately three million enemy combatants captured by allied forces. Of that, 370,000 Germans and 50,000 Italians were sent to America to wait out the war in local prison camps. Of the little over 400,000 soldiers sent here approximately 12,000 were kept in the twenty-three camps scattered across Nebraska. The base camp located in...

The Last Cowboy Standing started with all the fanfare that one would expect of the National PBR. Fire and fireworks lit up the sky as Cheyenne was introduced to the top forty bull riders in the world. First out of the chutes was Marco Eguchi, a twenty-nine year old Brazilian rider who is ranked twenty-first in the world. As he flew from the chute on Southern Style it looked like he might pull off his eight-seconds, but with an unexpected belly roll early on, Eguchi was ejected with a buck off ti...

This Sunday the 21st of July marks the 100th anniversary of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burns. The town of Burns, Luther at the time, was founded in 1906 by the Reverend Bursick. Several Lutherans came with the Reverend and developed a congregation, but had no place to meet. The small congregation would meet wherever they could. The Lutheran congregation in Burns had many pastors that came from several places to minister to the residents of this new little town. Finally, in August of 1909 Burns finally had their own resident pastor,...

Several of our residents braved much warmer temperatures and an almost three and a half hour delay to get a glimpse of the Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 as it rolled into Pine Bluffs on Monday. Marking the 150 year anniversary of the Transcontinental railroad, the 4014 began its journey in Cheyenne where it experienced a several hour delay due to a broken spring. Not to be deterred, however, the citizens of Pine patiently waited and were finally granted payoff when the Big Boy steamed in at about...
The first town council meeting for July started out with a resignation. Michael "Bubba" Ragsdale resigned his assignment on the landfill board as he begins a new position as the landfill manager. The appointment to the landfill board was handed to Councilman Donn Randall, who will now oversee that and the senior center. A discussion of the...

Governor Gordon stated that his goal was to develop a true two year budget, thus eliminating any “across the board c...

Originally told that Wyoming would only be allowed in the Union if it rescinded the suffrage law, Wyoming legislature was quoted to say, "We will remain out of the Union one hundred years...
The Pine Bluffs library held its weekly Fun for Kids time on Thursday for our local kids. This weeks theme was "seasons" and Molly Williams was on hand with songs, stories, rhymes, and interactive play to engage our children. Participating in a poem about seasons, interacting with a felt board, taking part in an outside exercise activity, and finishing off with some chalk art on the sidewalk kept the kids busy for the forty-five minute time slot, and Molly looked like she was having just as...
