If you’re like me then it’s never too early to start thinking about football! Coach Will Gray feels the same as he announces the 2019 Hornet Football Youth Camp. Running from July 8th to the 10th, this year’s camp will focus on fundamentals of the game. The Francis E. Warren Air Force Base has been part of the Wyoming landscape since 1867, and continues to serve to this day. Used by the Army from 1867 to 1945 many people do not know that the base, at one time, was used to house Italian and German prisoners during World War II. Dr. Kremke is a transplant from a town slightly smaller than Pine called Hooper, Nebraska. With a population of 850 people, Kremke is used to the small town life. Cheryl O'Brien has a passion for history. She and her husband travel all over Wyoming in a search for information about the World War II POW camps that were here in our great state. Pine Bluffs was home to one of those branch camps. Pine Bluffs POW camp opened in 1943, and was one of the earliest camps to open in the states. For the second year in a row the Texas Trail Museum hosted the Friendship Force. A group of twenty people came to visit our museum, learn a little about our history, and enjoy the feeling of small town Wyoming. Of the twenty visitors all but two were from Connecticut. The other two were from Cheyenne and Florida. The force stayed for almost two hours and walked all over the property. The Kranz Farm held the annual tractor pull on Saturday and Sunday of this last week. These events can go up to five divisions and 10,000 pounds. Participants are awarded cash prizes for the first, second, and third places, and all participants are awarded points for both showing and placing. Saturday, June 1, 2019 was the annual Pine Bluffs yard sale, and the weather was awesome! Die hards hit the streets as early as 7 a.m. to find the best deals. Over 20 local residents set up shop in their yards, driveways, and garages trying to get rid of the treasures they no longer wanted. The Senior Center hosted a myriad of deals along with the opportunuity to get breakfast burritos in the morning and burger meals in the afternoon. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Cheyenne offered weather spotter training at the Pine Bluffs town hall on May 7th. This training was devised to help local residents understand what to watch for when dealing with severe weather. Oftentimes in Pine Bluffs we are subject to much harsher weather than other parts of the state because of where we are located, and this training gave residents who attended some vital information.
