Soft spoken with an easy smile, Mary Cushing is the go to person at our local library. As a child she loved books, and would often play librarian with the collection she had at home. "I would make a pocket for the back, and rig up the special pencil with the date stamp on the top." Said Mary. As a grown up Mary found herself straying away from the library sciences and gravitating towards a nursing degree. She attended Nebraska Western College in Scottsbluff, NE, and was all set to attend nursing...

Thanksgiving is just days away and many of us will be making pumpkin pies as part of our traditional meal. What better way to make the ultimate fresh pumpkin pie that to process your own fresh puree? I remember when I first attempted to do make pumpkin puree, I was under the impression that you only had to cook the pumpkin by steaming, boiling baking or roasting. If I remember I peeled the pumpkin, cut the flesh into chunks, then boiled the chunks until tender, like you boil potatoes. I drained...
This stretch of cold weather has really put the rush on Mike to finish buttoning things up for winter. This week finds him busy in the greenhouse and still canning tomato sauce. Next week we should be picking more peppers in the greenhouse and canning them. The conversation at lunch on Sunday turned to our favorite soups. The cooler weather has us thinking about some of our favorite comfort foods. As the harvest season comes to a screeching halt in Wyoming, many of us have an ever-increasing...
After 37 years of playing music, the heavy metal band Slayer is coming to an end. Although their fame and fortune will more than likely continue, the members have decided to retire. Forming in 1981, and having their first studio album Show No Mercy in 1983, Slayer was very different and was considered controversial because of the style of lyrics they were presenting to the world. Their first two years were spent playing covers of band like Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest. After being voted best...
