The smell of smoked meat was in the air at Grover Day. It was due to the fifth annual BBQ cook-off that raises money for the school in Grover. This starts around 11:00 p.m. with the first category. This year there were eight different teams competing. They were Smoka Sauruses, Barbie Q, Just Smokin, Star-B-Que, Stormin Bar-B-Que, Frank-n-Beans, Blowin' Smoke, and Bull-B-Que. PB/B XC Update August 26, 2022 AND we’re back!!! I am sure that you have missed my thesis style updates from the XC Team. This year they may increase in size due to the sheer volume of our roster. We have 52 harriers this year 6th grade-12th grade. It is so amazing. Quick hitters (for my people who need the twitter version) JH are running machines. Football season has started. Burns Junior High had their first football game with the honor of being first on the field this year. They played Glenrock. You never know how the team is until after the first game. In the first quarter the teams seemed to be pretty well matched. By the end of the first half however the score was Glenrock 14 and the Broncs eight with an injured player. The costumes were colorful and the feet were moving with the rhythm of the music. During Bushnell Days the Los Guadalupanos traditional Folkloric Dancers from Gering, Nebraska performed. It's back for the second year in a row. Bushnell Days was August 20th for the whole day. The parade started at 10:00 a.m. with the Donald Eisenhauser American Legion Post # 60 as the color guard. An update on the Master Plan was held on August 10th at 5:30 p.m. at the Pine Bluffs Community Center. A short presentation was given by the committee on the last stages of the Master Plan. It was the last meeting for council member Jeff Appleman. The Burns Town council met on August 22nd at 5:30 p.m. It was a short meeting. First was the approval of vouchers. Where has the summer gone? It seems like I just planted a few weeks ago and now it's the end of August and harvest is just around the corner. I've been harvesting tomatoes and peppers for the last month. Cabbage is ready now and the squash and potatoes are only a few weeks out. In fact, I'll probably dig one potato plant in the next week or so to see how they're coming along. Right now I'm looking at starting to harvest them in late September but we'll see. The boards were lined up and the bean bags were set and ready to be tossed. At Bushnell Days in the afternoon the cornhole tournament was underway. Eighteen teams competed in a double elimination bracket. Some of the teams had never played in a tournament before but were having fun. The competitors were challenging each other. The boards were set up and bean bags were laid down. On Sunday August 7th was the Second Annual Connor Graves-Tyler Morgan Cornhole Tournament. This tournament was set-up to honor Connor Graves that died from a bad accident. She grew up in the Pine Bluffs area and was very active throughout the community. Saturday night I had the unique opportunity to attend the Live Fire Farm to Table event presented by Visit Cheyenne and the Wyoming Department of Tourism and hosted by Rabou Farms north of Albin, Wyoming.
