  • State Fair shortened by half

    Zach Spadt|Mar 22, 2018

The Wyoming State Fair will only last four days this year, a reduction by half from the traditional eight days. “The condensed schedule will increase daily activity on the grounds for the duration of the fair while shortening the time away from home for families, vendors, and young people who participate in the fair,” James Goodrich, Director of the Wyoming State Fair said in a press release. Last fall, state fair officials toured the Wyoming and held listening sessions in Wyoming’s communities regarding how to keep the fair affordable. Throu...

  • From Ukraine to the United States - Bees are Universal

Mike Heath Laramie County Master Gardners|Mar 22, 2018

Told by Mike Heath Alan Chubak now lives Murray, Utah, but not always. While I was at the Wyoming Bee College Saturday morning (working on another article) I was attracted to some unusual bee boxes at a vendor's table. What made them so unusual was the intricate carving all around the boxes. They were so uncommon that I was willing to wait until the vendor returned to his booth. He was teaching a class for the Bee College and was due to return shortly before lunch. I finally found Albert looking...

  • The Magic of Writing

    Midori Fabela Student Reporter|Mar 22, 2018

Frederick Douglass once said "Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." Imagine all the worlds you can introduce to people within your writing. Writing can take you anywhere, into lands you wouldn't imagine existed. It can even get you scholarships. Writing now will also help students get ready for those BIG essays they will be working on in college. Writing can impact what job they will get as well. You can even put a little of yourself in it. Wouldn't that be fun to be in your own...

  • The Wyoming Bee College - Another one in the Can

Mike Heath Laramie County Master Gardners|Mar 22, 2018

As I write this, the fifth annual Wyoming Bee College is "in the can". What a success! There were 275 attendees this year from all over the west. The event started with the Bee University on Friday. The highlight of the Bee University were the classes on Apitherapy, the art and science of using bee stings and bee venom as medical therapy. Scott and Kelsey Johnson from Newcastle are second year beekeepers and found the curriculum to be not only informative, but exciting. Like so many, they...

This year the Pine Bluffs Music Bingo was held in the new elementary school for the first time. The Music Bingo is the biggest annual fundraiser that the Music department holds. The money earned goes into many things including equipment repair, taking students to the music festival in Cheyenne, taking students to district honor band and choir, and helps pay for the music played throughout the year. The last few years, the Bingo program has run fairly late. A lot of thought went into how it...

    Zach Spadt|Mar 15, 2018

More than 55 Pine Bluffs High School students turned out for track this year. “It’s certainly the biggest team I’ve had,” head coach Dustin Lee said Tuesday. “When we have a lot of numbers that helps considerably.” The majority of those 55 students began track practices last week. Lee attributed the large team to students seeing the overall success of the school’s athletic programs. Pine Bluffs has already earned two state titles this year in football and boys basketball. “We’re going to ride that success and see what we can get done,” Lee sa...

Time for what, you may ask. Well, the first day of spring is March 20th and that means it's nearly time to start those new plants, so they'll be ready to set out once the weather warms up. In fact, it's time now to start thinking about what seeds you're going to buy and where are you going to plant them when they are ready. As you go through this process, you'll need to answer a few questions. To begin with, you'll need to know where you want to put plants. Are the areas sunny, shady or maybe...

The Hornets capped off yet another unforgettable season this weekend with a 2A Boys State Championship in Casper. Pine Bluffs finished the tournament Friday night with a 73-68 win over Wind River. Many will remember last year's semifinals loss against the same team at state. But it wasn't on the players' minds. "We never really talked about getting back at Wind River," head coach Tyler...

    Zach Spadt|Mar 8, 2018

The Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets certainly didn't plan on losing their first game in the 2A Wyoming Girls State Basketball Tournament held last week. Unfortunately, that's how their state tournament started, but they were able to come away with a consolation win. The Lady Hornets got off to a slow start against Lovell, giving up 24 turnovers. "We did not play good basketball against Lovell," head coach Lindsey Forbes said. "You can't give up 24 turnovers and expect to win." Forbes said she thought...

    Elizabeth Syvanen Post Reporter Intern|Mar 8, 2018

Getting into the state championships for basketball is hard enough, but having all eyes on you as a player is even more difficult. The Most Valuable Player, Haize Fornstrom, didn't even seem to flinch. Going into state the Hornets had only lost one game to Big Horn so the confidence level was pretty high.
