With the coming of the New Year also comes the first application periods for the upcoming hunting seasons. The first deadline is Feb. 2 when applications for nonresident elk licenses for the 2015 hunting seasons are due. The deadline in normally Jan. 31 but has been extended this year because Jan. 31 is on a weekend. Several new fishing regulations will go into effect with the New Year. These changes came about because of action by the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission last fall and went through a series of public meetings. Of interest to anglers and live baitfish dealers is the change that allows transport of live baitfish into the state from approved commercial hatcheries. A significant structure fire started at about 8 p.m. Dec. 30, on the north side of the downtown business section of the town of Dubois. As of 10 a.m. Dec. 31 there was no identified cause of the fire. There were no injuries reported due to the fire. Fire inspectors are assessing and evaluating the incident. Washington, D.C. – A majority of Senate Democrats defeated a bill to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline Tuesday evening. The Senate voted 59-41 for the bill, but 60 votes were required for adoption.
