Mountain Pine Beetle, Pine Bark Beetle, Black Hills Beetle, Rocky Mountain Pine Beetle… and sometimes described by other, more colorful explicative terms, are all the same little guy… Dendroctonus ponderosae, He is less than 3/16 of an inch long, like a small black grain of rice…a little bit bigger than a piece of broken lead from your pencil…yet he can cause unimaginable damage. . We are most appreciative of the Purple Heart article included in the May 30th Pine Bluffs Post. Our Son, Devin, is certainly worthy of the Medal. He took several direct hits in his role as EOD technician and displayed the courage that can be expected from a young man raised in a small town such as Pine Bluffs. He was one of the few that returned to unrestricted duty within two years after the IED blasts. Others involved in the incidents were not able to cope and have left the Military or are in...

Pine Bluffs Senior Center director Angie Robertson would like to clarify the article written last week about the Pine Bluffs Senior Center. In regards to our funding, the Senior Center receives federal and state funding. Grant funds have been cut the last two years and are expected to be cut for the next several years. What does this mean to our center? It means that with the funding shortfalls we will have to recoup these funds in other ways. Directors from across the state have been working hard on possible ways to raise funds. Some of those...

The annual Day of Giving is set for Friday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Kiwanis Community House in Cheyenne. The whole day is focused on one simple thing: asking people to come out and do what they can to help those among us who are sick or who cannot afford life’s necessities for themselves or their families. They have no entertainment, no door prizes, just that one goal. Those who come by to drop off donations have that unmistakable feeling that they have done something very good ...
Cheyenne Matthews showed up at the Wheatland Motocross Races with her new 2013 KTM 350 SX-F race bike and she was ready to ride. Almost all of her competitors are riding the newer 250cc Four Stroke bikes so her old 100cc bike was more than a little outclassed. Not anymore though. “It was a streak of pure luck that I happened to be at the Honda Dealer in Ft. Collins when this bike was brought in for a trade.” said Cheyenne’s father. “Cheyenne is just too small to pick up a bike this big and be...

While we won’t know for sure how the campaign went for several months, we are all very optimistic about the results. We are hopeful because every day we tested the students were ready to go, and s...

Cheyenne Matthews got quite a surprise when David Chalman, owner of Cheyenne Auto Glass, called her and asked if she wanted a bike to race for free. She was not even planning on racing this year after a bad wreck messed up her bike and took her out of contention last year. Chalman said “The bike just kind of sat around and I wanted Cheyenne to be racing again, so if she enters five races this season it’s hers free and clear.” All of Cheyenne’s gear was too small but very generous sponsor...

All students and staff of Pine Bluffs Elementary are asked to donate one quarter - $.25, to our Reach Out to Sandy Hook Elementary fund. The money will be used to purchase a gift and make a donation to the school community in Newtown Connecticut. It is quite possible that none of us will forget the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut in December. The heartache of that event has been felt in schools across the nation as teachers, students, and parents examine safety protocols and continue to work to make our schools safer...
