This past Thursday I had the pleasure of attending Special Olympics. Special Olympics is something I hold in very high respect. People with intellectual disabilities of all sorts gathered around the starting line at Cheyenne Central High School. It began with Track and Field Events. After lunch, which was served by volunteers, many of which came from Pine Bluffs High School, East H.S. welcomed us for basketball. Track, Weights, Swimming, and basketball were just a few of the events. Everyone...

    Zach Spadt|May 3, 2018

LUSK - Saturday afternoon at Niobrara County High School in Lusk, Pine Bluffs junior Kendra Sloan was well on her way to winning the pole vault event and setting a personal record when the last call for 100-meter hurdles rang out. That was a problem for Sloan, as she hadn't finished competing in the pole vault when she was called to the hurdles, another event she excelled in Saturday. "She tweaked her knee on the third hurdle," head coach Dustin Lee said. "I didn't see it happen, but when she...

    Zach Spadt|Apr 26, 2018

Last week, the Wyoming Recreation and Parks Association held its annual workshop right here in Pine Bluffs. In the past the event has been held in Casper, but that changed last Thursday. The workshop was one of two annual events the association holds each year, the other being the annual conference. At the annual workshop, parks and recreation professionals networked and attended different seminars including event planning and marketing. • National Small Business Week

    Z|Apr 26, 2018

According to Pine Bluffs Post Archives, the building that now houses Farmers State Bank was constructed in 1925 as Carlstrum's Dry Good store. However, in 1957 the owners liquidated the business's stock and Farmers State Bank, which was established in 1915, began moving in - but not without extensive renovations first. A tour of the bank reveals that the drop down ceiling now in place, hides what was a mezzanine encircling ground floor of the interior. In the times that the building operated as...

  • Guts to be Judged

    Elizabeth Syvanen Post Reporter Intern|Apr 26, 2018

This past Friday, I had the pleasure of attending Casper's Annual High School Art Symposium. The kids that went spent approximately six hours on a bus, three one way and three back. In my opinion, it was worth every second. There was just about everything there, from taxidermy, to 3D sculptures, to paintings, fused glass, ceramics, and everything in between. It was incredibly eye opening to be around that much quality artwork, and honestly pretty overwhelming. The beauty of art, in my opinion,...

  • Broncs third in Pine

    Zach Spadt|Apr 26, 2018

Several strong performances in Pine Bluffs landed Burns a third-place finish at the Pine Bluffs invitational track meet Thursday, April 19. Keenan Manlove was the only Bronc to outright win an event. His 10-07.00 effort in the pole vault carried him to first place in that event, ahead of Boe Clayson who finished with a 10-01.00 vault. However, because a number of Broncs chipped in to place and thereby earn points in other events, they were still able to walk away with third-place honors. The...

  • Learning about government

    Zach Spadt|Apr 19, 2018

Operating a swimming pool is expensive. As an example, Pine Bluffs pays about $60,000 each year to operate its swimming pool, which is only open three months out of the year. That’s why council members voted Monday to assess fees at the swimming pool this summer. It will cost $1.50 to visit the swimming pool this summer. “A pop costs a dollar,” Council Member Donn Randall said. “We’re squabbling over a dollar.” In addition to $1.50 being nominal, Randall said the future fees will encourage p...

  • The Life spring brings

    Elizabeth Syvanen Post Reporter Intern|Apr 19, 2018

If you've ever been around baby animals, I'm sure you're able to recognize the warm, cheerfully-serene feeling that seems to radiate from around them. Personally, it doesn't get much better than walking out to the barn and seeing the small, adorable, fuzzy face of a week old lamb staring back at me. With our final ewe deciding to have her lambs around the sixth of this month, we had two last lambs added to the mix, Dopey and Pongo. Around my house you would find multiple hints at springtime....

  • Pine Bluffs second at Burns

    Zach Spadt|Apr 19, 2018

BURNS - Four Pine Bluffs Hornets added to already impressive seasons last week with wins on the track and in the field at the Burns Invitational track meet last Thursday. Riding an outstanding year in the 100-meter dash, Seth Tangeman took home first-place honors in the event. For his 136-foot throw, Tucker Norman earned first place in the discus toss. Haize Fornstrom won the triple jump by nearly three feet with his 40-8.50 effort. And Ishmael DePaullite, who is also having quite a senior...

  • Lady Hornets take third

    Zach Spadt|Apr 19, 2018

BURNS - Kendra Sloan might have earned the Lady Hornets' only event win last week at the Burns Invitational track and field meet, but several of her teammates put up strong performances to help the team take second-place. Sloan won the pole vault at 8-10.00, but a number of her teammates earned several top-four places. Head Coach Dustin Lee has referred to it as nickel and diming in the past. The team's diversity showed yet again this year as Lady Hornets were represented - and well - in events...
