Pine Bluffs' prep football season on the gridiron came to a disappointing close in Big Horn Friday night. Big Horn defeated the hornets 68-13. "Big Horn is as good of a team as I've coached against," said Pine Bluffs head coach Will Gray. "They are big and fast and are playing very well together as a group." Gray said the Hornets didn't help themselves by failing to execute early on in the game. Being unable to win one-on-one battles further hurt the Hornets' chances. The game quickly got away...
ALBIN - Laramie County Sheriff's Department personnel would like to make it into rural Laramie County for patrols and community outreach more frequently - they just lack the manpower. That's what representatives from Laramie's County's law enforcement agency told about a dozen Albin-area residents at a public meeting held Thursday, Oct. 25. LCSD Operations Lieutenant Don Hollingshead said the department is looking to build a bigger presence in rural Laramie County as more deputies are hired over...

In the early 20th century, somewhere in Laramie County, thirsty men from all walks of life gathered in cow pastures under the moonlight to produce whiskey with the sole hope of not getting caught. They were the area's first liquor producers. When the law caught up to the moonshiners, sheriff's deputies destroyed their whiskey barrels, leaving only the metal rings. Those rings spent the better part of a century in the elements. They were trampled by cattle. They rusted. And Pine Bluffs Distilling...
A town-wide power outage is still planned for the night of Tuesday Oct. 30. It is expected to last from 10 p.m. until the early morning hours of Oct 31. The outage is the result of the town’s substation needing substantial repairs following the July 2016 hailstorm. During a town council meeting earlier this month, Pine Bluffs Treasurer Kim Patterson said the town and a crew from High West Energy have prepared as much as possible for the outage. That includes prefabricating as many parts as they can prior to the outage. Pine Bluffs Public Works...

It seems they’re catching their rhythm at just the right time. “Our defense and passing were spot on,” said head coach Lisa Gilbert of Friday’s win over Lusk. “I am pleased with where we are going into regionals.” The Lady Hornets will face Moorcroft, who has the No. 4 seed. Moorcroft and the Pine Bluffs...

"Lusk is a physical football team and I thought we matched...
Everyone has a story involving John Marquardt - and many took place in a small airplane. Take Alex Davison for example. Davison learned to fly at the instruction of Marquardt in 1984. One day the young aviation student was reviewing emergency procedures with Marquardt, specifically, what to do in the event of an engine failure: Check your magnetos, switch back and forth between fuel tanks if applicable. And finally, if all else fails, look for a place to land. "That's all well and good but what...

This year’s hunt is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. at the Silver Wings Hunting Preserve near LaGran...
Each year, the rivalry between Pine Bluffs and Burns on the gridiron can feel as important as a playoff game to those who compete in it. Despite playing in different divisions, the schools have historically held a bitter rivalry against each other. This year, it went to Burns, who took advantage of five Pine Bluffs turnovers. Stating the obvious, Pine Bluffs Head Coach Will Gray said you can't commit...
The 2018 cross country season is quickly winding down for the Burns-Pine Bluffs High School teams and they took one step closer to the final meets of the year Friday in Cheyenne. “Cheyenne is a great ‘home’ meet for us, but it was tough,” said head coach Ashley Rousseau of the meet which featured frigid temperatures and rainy weather. “We were hoping for better times this week, but the weather was against us, freezing our runners and cramping muscles.” For the varsity girls squad, Piper Perez came in 12th with a time of 20:52. The lights will go out in Pine Bluffs for several hours the night of Tuesday, October 30. That’s due in part to the town’s electrical infrastructure being in desperate need of repair, town officials say. Specifically, a substation that the town relies on is outdated and sustained severe damage during the 2016 hailstorm. Because a substation failure would be catastrophic, repairs are planned for the night of October 30. “Without these substation upgrades, our system is very vulnerable to a town-wide power outage that we’re not prepared for,” s...
