The council reviewed the bids for the sale of the bus, and accepted the highest bid of...
The ritual of reading the local newspaper is alive and well here in Wyoming. Whether it is daily, twice-weekly or weekly, folks are reading their local paper as soon as it is delivered. Newspaper readership is growing. And yet, for some reason, the conventional wisdom is that newspapers, if not dead already, are certainly dying. In home after home, it is not just grandma and grandpa reading the local bugle, but rather grade school kids, high school kids and busy moms and dads. And college...
With the first full week of 2013 behind us, I think I see some things that need to change. Yes, I know what you’re thinking, “Already?” Yep, already. So here goes. First, you need to stop referring to a man’s friendship with another man as a “Bromance.” Although this term was made popular by the movie, “I love You Man,” there is nothing funny about it. Seriously, just because I call my brother-in-law and talk to him about the football game doesn’t mean I am engaged in a “Bromance.” I mean, what does it even mean?! It’s a friendship, nothing mor...
Philosopher Erich Fromm said, “The mother-child relationship is paradoxical and, in a sense, tragic. It requires the most intense love on the mother’s side, yet this very love must help the child grow away from the mother, and to become fully independent.” It was my mom’s birthday last week. Even if I had all the means to buy in this consumer driven world, she would be difficult to buy for. As I get older and deal with impending death of my parents, I want to buy them anything they want. B...

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department reminds hunters and anglers that most 2012 licenses and stamps are no longer valid in the new year. The one exception is for 2012 elk licenses that are still valid in areas with elk seasons extending into January. Even though their 2012 elk license is valid in January, hunters are reminded that the 2012 conservation stamp has expired and a new one will be needed to participate in January elk hunts. Hunting seasons for small game and some bird species extend into January and February, but 2013 bird and small...

Many wonderful and useful gifts were received and a nice strawberry dessert was enjoyed also! I have not paid much attention to baby items for a...

1 years ago Word reached Cheyenne late yesterday (Monday) of the death of County Commissioner W.G. Curtis of Torrington. While it was generally known that Mr. Curtis was in poor health, the news of his death came as a great surprise to his many friends in the city. It was an odd coincidence that his death occurred on the day of his resignation from office of commissioner of Laramie county was to take effect. You didn’t think about the 400 calories a square of Grandma’s fudge. And forget about being mindful of the 1,800 calories on the plate at Christmas dinner or those parties where you munched 3,000 of the make-you -feel-good-now-but-later-regret calories. Sigh. You are not alone. Diet pills, systems and plans spend millions of dollars with marketing firms in December dreaming up ways to remind you in January of what you ate. Even if people don’t say it out loud, most of us are guilty of wanti...
