  • Burns tractor pull is still on

Jimmie Earls, Pine Bluffs Post Editor|Jan 21, 2016

Just because Burns Day has been canceled doesn't mean area residents still can't get their fair share of engine-revving, mud-slinging, trailer-dragging, tractor action come summer. According to co-organizer Kim Kranz, the event is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 21. "Even though we're not having a Burns Day, we still want to have a tractor pull in Burns," she said to Burns Town Council on January 11. "I have a quote for the insurance and the school is going to let us use their grounds,...

  • Some recent movies are all about the Cowboy State

    Bill Sniffin|Jan 21, 2016

Not sure what a writer from Torrington, Oscar nominations and Rudyard Kipling have in common, but that is what this column covers. Last week, movie nominations were announced for the annual Academy Awards and Wyoming was prominent in both the nominees and the passed over movies. But first, on a recent dark and cold night (-13), I was being forced to watch American Idol by my wife Nancy and, as is normal in our household, I was leafing through a magazine and checking items on my iPad. The latter...

  • Winter gets the best of town equipment

Jimmie Earls, Pine Bluffs Post Editor|Jan 21, 2016

The recent snowfalls have done a number on Pine Bluffs’ front end loader and now repairs are costing more than the piece of equipment is worth. “We’re having severe issues with the loader,” said public works director Jerry Lamb to Pine Bluffs Town Council on January 4. “The differentials, the right front differential and the left back differential are out. We’ve noticed it a lot with moving snow. You can drive down the road and not notice it, but when you put a load, it’s clunking and banging turning a corner, and it’s leaking oil really bad,...

  • No Till Notes: Water Conservation

    Mark Watson|Jan 21, 2016

I’ve been busy building my power point presentations for the No till On The Plains and High Plains No till winter conferences. I’ve been asked to speak about water conservation at each of these conferences. I’ve always thought that our limited groundwater supply would be a driving force in the adoption of continuous no till crop production practices in our region on irrigated acres. Surface water irrigation is a moving target as the levels of surface water fluctuate with the snowfall in the m...

  • Banner County News

    Barb Cross|Jan 21, 2016

Good morning Banner County, neighbors near and far. I hope this week is treating you well. I am sure there is a lot going on in the personal lives of the folks here in our community and their extended families, however, as far as community events go there are very few this time of the year. Most of us enjoy staying home and close to the fire anyway! We do have some exciting news though with the arrival of two babies last week, and no not twins. • Albin News

    Carolyn Ragsdale|Jan 21, 2016

There was no one celebrating their birthday this week and no one was scheduled for the special. Pastor Opdycke continued her study of Hebrews with Chapter 2. Her topic was Jesus Is God’s Answer To All Life’s Problems. Next week, January 24, the sermon topic will be Revolt! The topic for January 31 will be Resting in God. If you have news to...

Spring is not quite here yet. We have many more weeks of cold dark wintry nights ahead of us, no matter what the little rodent says February 2. However, some of us are starting spring activities. Some are calving. Some are having baby rabbits. Some are preparing to clean. Albin is no different than another other community, although quite a bit less of us make the “some.” But isn’t it the “some” of the whole is greater than the parts? Let us see what those “parts” have been up to. So some may s...
