At their bi-monthly meeting Monday evening, the Pine Bluffs council took another step closer to starting the working on City Park. Engineer Scott Larsen presented the council with the contract for the work. Mayor Bill Shain informed the council they had agreed to build the bathroom building in a different site from the original contract bid. “That move will cost us $9,500, and we need to decide if it is worth the money for the location,” said Shain. “The original plan had it close to the schoo...
I have to wonder what has happened, in this day and age, to drive the common decencies and respect that our parents taught us, away. It seems to be commonplace now to go to a grocery store and cut someone off in the parking lot, leave your trash in your cart, leave said cart in between cars or otherwise take up a parking place, or to spit your gum on the ground so some one can step in it — I have been the victim of this more than once. Is it really so hard to clean up your trash, put away y...
Do you love your dogs? A lot of people do. Many of you probably care for your animals as extended members of your families. As such you don't want anything bad to happen to them and will take them to the vet if they need special care. My wife and I care for our animals too! We try to insure that their shots are kept current and they receive food, water and treats on a regular basis. We have a doggie door so they can go outside as they wish and a fenced back yard to keep them safe. We try to keep them from bothering the neighbors and from...
Statistics showed that San Francisco would win the 47th Super Bowl. I told my youngest son, as soon as the flip of the coin, you can listen to the commentators dispensing statistics. “The winner of the flip wins 45 percent of the time.” “The first to score wins 92 percent of the time.” Then, shortly into the second half of the 47th Super Bowl, the lights went out. The NFL officials gave a “humble apology” for the power surge that delayed the game. But what if it was something more? What if it... Full story

A win over Peetz on Saturday left the Pawnee Coyotes with one proud coach after a loss to Fleming the night before. Friday’s score was hard-fought 69-55 loss. On Saturday, the Coyotes played their way into a hole before picking up the pace for the 64-57 win. “We dug a huge hole to climb out of in the first quarter, giving up 28 points to our 11,” Pawnee coach Tim Brunelle said of Friday’s loss. “But we outscored them in the second and third quarters and cut the lead down to where we had a sho...
The Pine Bluffs Hornets headed over the summit Friday for a game against the Saratoga Panthers and came home with a 59-51 victory. On Saturday, they found themselves on the road again, this time facing off with the Leyton Warriors. In that contest the Hornets were sent packing a 30-55 loss. “I thought the kids handled the long bus ride very well,” Hornet head coach Will Gray said of Friday’s contest. “We came out in the first half and did some good things, in the second half we got away from do...
The Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets took to the road last weekend, first heading west to Saratoga, then west to Leyton. The travel time was well worth their efforts, as they brought home two victories. At the Hereford Community Church this week Leonard Wiggin read a story called “Options.” The sermon topic was “Human Nature.” We are all born with a sin nature. Jesus came as a human to shed his blood for our sin to bring us to God. When someone accepts Jesus’ sacrifice the Holy Spirit comes to live within him and the Holy Spirit has the power to overcome human nature. God gave us the Ten Commandments to show us how to live, and the Holy Spirit gives us the power to obey. Disobedience and decei...
All is quiet on the home front. Snow seems to fall almost every night making the town look like a ski resort. Many houses have for sale signs up and we still have our lonely little Country Hair Designs sitting dark. Spring sure would be a nice time to welcome a new family to town who happens to have their cosmetology license. Get the word out. Our looks are depending on it. If you have any news, email it to us at [email protected]....
Who believes that underground chipmunk Punxsutawney Phil anyway? Little snow here this past week and looking like warmer weather for at least a few days. Rain would be nice. This past weekend I had a chance to finally visit for a few minutes with Gwen Bayeral about her recent trip to Alaska to see kids, grandkids, and great-grands. Of course she had a great time although she returned with the beginnings of a cold, or whatever this current nasty bug is. She is well now and we are glad for that....

I asked a friend what I should do my column on this week. Immediately the answer came — love. I groaned. Love? Really? Then the reminder that Valentines Day is rapidly approaching making the topic uber (as some would say) appropriate. I am not a fan of sitting in church around Valentines Day. I have heard a lot of sermons given on I Corinthians 13. You know, the LOVE chapter. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind hearing that sermon every year or so. But there is something refreshing about a preac...
