Presented with a lengthy agenda and an absent chairman, the Laramie County Commissioners found their way through their rescheduled meeting last Tuesday before adjourning to some employees from the sheriff’s department who were asking for answers. The operations department at the sheriff’s office apologized for not knowing the proper protocol for bringing business before the commissioners. Vice chairman Buck Holmes asked clerk Debbye Lathrop if they needed to reopen the meeting. Lathrop explained... Full story

There are quite a few freedoms afforded the masses that populate the shores of this country. One is free speech and another the right to vote. All too often people exercise the first and ignore the second. Heard on the street recently: “I’ve lived here for decades. Guess I better register for this election.” Really? That means that no vote was cast for president of this country. No vote was cast for our state and federal legislators. If those elections did not garner interest in regis...
Clouds of gathered moisture drops held by a force of cold air cast a dark shadow on ground so used to warm sunshine, it cringed from the darkness. But the cloud still shows dark on a stage unaware of why, until the air clinging to the moisture drops moves on to darken another life. Storm clouds were present the night my father died. I was sitting by his bedside, holding onto a hand that could no longer hold me. A hand whose strength shaped me a bit different than other daughters. I was raised...

The weather was chilly, but not t...

This year is almost half over, can you believe it? I sure cannot. Many folks have been out with flu like symptoms, and some have pneumonia. Odd for this time of year, and never any fun. Everyone is busy this week with track meets and graduations. The junior high team is in Chappell today for the Leyton tournament and they will travel to Chappell once again Tuesday, May 7, for the Harlon Sutton invite. Both meets begin at 8:30 a.m. The varsity track teams will travel this Friday, May 3, to...
For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church Alison Mickelson read a story about a young boy who was sent to a church school. The sermon topic was “Burning Hearts,” which is the desire to know the Bible and share with others. The prophet Jeremiah in chapter 20 verse 9 says “Sometimes I tell myself not to think about you, Lord, or even mention your name. But your message burns in my heart and bones, and I cannot keep silent.” To have a burning heart you must have faith in the Bib...

1 years ago Cheyenne man charges his wife with fraud. Cheyenne, Wyo. — That Olga Wurst, a young woman of probably thirty years, married him merely to swindle him, and with full knowledge at the time that she was the wife of another man, is the complaint of Henry Smith, seventy-six, in an appeal to the District Court to annul and cancel a note for $2,500, secured by a mortgage on Cheyenne real estate worth twice that sum, given by him to his bride on the day of their wedding and now held by Amelia M. Johnson. Smith asserts that less than a m...
I have for years marked up my Bible. Underlined verses, left notes in the margins wrapped around verses and other scripture references packed between the columns of each page. I still have the first Bible I ever bought. Birthday money from my grandparents in 1975 got me the standard black Scofield reference version. I have since learned Mr. Scofield was not quite right on his commentary, but that first Bible served me well. It is taped along its spine to help keep it together and bears the...
It’s sure been an ugly April and that is exactly what we needed. The majority of us have experienced several days of snow, wintery mix, spring showers, and back to blowing snow. April has been above normal in precipitation and it couldn’t have come at a better time. With this moisture has come an optimism that the drought may be easing and we’ll have a chance at producing good crops and hay this growing season. All we need now is for Mother Nature not to forget about us and give us “norm...
