I watched a movie this weekend that I have seen many times before. However, this time the movie hit me in a different way. The movie, Chasing Amy, is directed and written by Kevin Smith. Smith is well known for his other films, Clerks, Mallrats, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Dogma and Jersey Girl. In this movie, the main character, played by Ben Affleck, has fallen for a woman who is attracted to other women. Her character, played by Joey Lauren Adams, in turn falls in love with him. Without going in to a lot of detail about the film, Ben...
“What’s the story behind this afghan, mom,” asked my oldest as he snuggled under the blanket. I told him his great-grandmother crocheted it and I stole it from my sister. He wondered why I took it, and I explained he had burned my afghan from my grandmother on a floor heater, his aunt had an extra of grandma’s, so I took it. Everything in life has a story behind it. Another story in this edition talks about the cherry tree and George Washington. It didn’t happen, the country needed something...

It was incorrectly reported in the Laramie County School District No. 2 Board meeting article last week on the honor for Darrel Repshire. It should have read that he received the Outstanding Educational Support Person (ESP) for Eastern Laramie County School District and the ESP state winner for Wyoming Education Association. The Pine Bluffs Post apologizes for the mistake....
It was a chilly crisp day I let my thoughts fade away. The water flows over my hands As I grab the wet fabric bands. The soap residue sticks to my skin My hands not as wrinkled as they could have been. When the clothes finish with the wash I run it through the wringers to be squashed. Those wood rollers pressed and turned with the wheel The clothes slid under like a reel. Then one day we bought a motor That turned the wheel over and over. All you had to do was slide the clothes under And listen...
Burns eighth grader Katie Norris, daughter of Titus and Charlotte Norris, is stepping up when it comes to spelling words. She tied for first place at the regional spelling bee competition. “I put the ‘e’ before the ‘l’ when I spelled wentletrap, but I know how to spell it now,” smiled Norris. “The only other word I got wrong was ‘irizar’ which I’m still not sure of.” Norris found her niche in spelling bees. She “loves to read” and after reading so many words, it became easy to spell them. “Read...

Pine Bluffs maintenance leveled the old bathroom and pavilion at City Park Monday. The town council agreed to place a new bathroom and shelter at the park as part of one of the many rehabilitation projects beginning around town. The contractor told the council the park has a “soft completion date” of July 4, but some areas might be roped off with new sod after that date.... Full story

With Valentine’s Day behind us and a few days off from school, it sure has been nice to just enjoy being home. We (I) have under taken a re-modeling project that I am getting really tired of and will be glad to have completed. Hopefully that will happen this week! The blizzard type weather we had last Sunday closed all of our local churches too, and although we hated that, it was necessary and better to be safe. On top of all of that we have had a lot of flu in the community, some with severe s...
The village meeting was pretty short again this month, but some helpful reminders were mentioned. The landfill fee is increasing by $2 a month, to $13. The postal service meeting to gather input on preferred window hours will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 1 p.m. in the community center. The village board meetings will be held at 7 p.m. starting in March (because of Daylight Savings Time). And the annual pet clinic will be held April 16, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the fire hall — shots will be p...
The deep freeze has hit Albin. It seems just when we get a day without snow, the wind blows in chilling temperatures. But, sooner than we can get our propane tanks filled again, spring will be here with warm winds and light rains. The Albin town council met Thursday evening. The museum is still moving along. The final touches are ones that require a bit warmer weather than we’ve had lately. Jillian McLaughlin reminded everyone about the farm show March 13. Call the center for more information o...
For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church Steve Hauer sang “To Forgive.” Pastor Opdycke began teaching on the seven deadly sins. The sermon title this week was “A Foolish and Dangerous Place” referring to the first deadly sin which is pride. Pride is defined as conceit or haughtiness. Pastor Opdycke used the story of Haman from the book of Ester to illustrate. Haman was filled with pride, but it caused him to lose his life. The book of Proverbs states that pride goeth before...
1 years ago Several cases of diphtheria have developed in Sheridan, as the result of which several families have been placed under quarantine. Governor Carey vetoed the bill granting Mrs. Mary Stressner of Rawlins $2,500 because her husband was killed by escaping convicts. The legislature of the State of Wyo spent the first fourteen days of their session in squabbling over who to be United States senator and the balance of the term has been used up in fighting the Governor and Immigration Comm...
I know you think I’m going to give you a recipe for cherry pie, as we all tend to associate cherries, particularly cherry trees with our first president. But just as the mid-19th century accounts detailing the first Thanksgiving feast were debunked as nationalism, Washington’s the cherry tree story has found its way into the national myth column. Folks back then felt the nation was divided and needed to “cut” a unified history if it was going to survive. It worked, or I wouldn’t have brought it... Full story
