  • Albin News

    Monte Lerwick and Charlene Smith|Feb 28, 2013

The community center hosted lunch Sunday. The kids and I ventured out in the snow after church and dined with about 40 other Albinites. The food was warm and tasty. It was also a great opportunity to catch up with friends and neighbors. Thanks to Michelle Childers, Karen Sorensen, Jillian Kriz, and Jillian McLaughlin for treating the town to a very nice dinner. Bountiful Baskets will be at the community center Saturday morning. You need to put your order in by Monday the week before the baskets...

  • Looking Back

    Feb 28, 2013

1 years ago Francisco I. Madero, deposed president of Mexico, was assassinated in the streets of the capitol by the minions of Victoriano Huerta shortly after midnight. Jose Marie Pino Suarez, deposed vice president, who rejected an offer of his life as the price of disloyalty, also was slain by the same hand that murdered his chief. The double assassination took place in an automobile in which the victims were being taken to the penitentiary, the echos of its shots mingeling (sic) with the dying strains of the American celebrations of the...

  • Plant in March, taste in June

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Feb 28, 2013

There is a poem that has different translations and dialects about March. The poem from England goes, “March comes in with adders’ heads and goes out with peacocks’ tails.” I don’t know how many snakes we will see tomorrow, or even peacocks towards the end, but you can plant a few seeds of summer that will keep the snakes away and bloom like a peacocks tail. Starting seedlings inside really helps spring bounce our way quicker. Starting your own seeds will also save a little “dough” t...

  • The guiding work of the Potter’s hands

Cynthia Shroyer, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Feb 28, 2013

Have you ever learned something that makes you just sit and say, “Hmm!”? For instance, did you know that the same 13 elements that make up topsoil make up our bodies? That would make us kin to the garden not to chimps. And something I gathered from my Bible reading: God did not speak man into being. In Genesis 1:3 “God said ‘Let there be light …’” In Genesis 1:6 He spoke the expanse between water and water into being thus creating the sky. In Genesis 1: 9 He said “Let the water under the sky b...

  • No-till notes — 20 years of education, part 3

    Mark Watson|Feb 28, 2013

Once we made the commitment to adopting a no-till crop production system we needed to learn residue management with our equipment. We also had to determine a cropping rotation for our farm that would give us the best chance for success. Needless to say we had a few bumps along the way. We adapted our combine to manage the residue at harvest by adding chaff spreaders to evenly distribute the chaff coming out of the back of the combine. Eventually we also adapted a stripper head to better manage...
