"It gives me a lot of time to get better." The throw shattered previous Kimball Invitational record of 126 feet, 3 inches, set by Josh Osienger of Mitchell,...

Lawton said she is among the students in her math class that finish course work early, providing her the opportunity to do extra credit assignments called "challenge sheets". Lawton said it's...

Girls Coach Brooks Hoffman said attending the meet was nice, after missing the Early Bird last year. “It was great to get up to Morrill this year since we missed it last year to poor weather conditions,” he said. “I just hope the weather this April is more cooperative than it was last year.” Hoffman said the girl...
Finding a home cooked meal outside of the home can feel like a scavenger hunt. Charlene Smith, owner of Old School Cafe, knows how hard it is to find a decent meal after running her family from Burns, Cheyenne, then back home to Albin. Smith has invested in a cafe to help families, teachers and even students have a healthy meal at an affordable price. Smith was handed the idea for a restaurant while she was a reporter at the Pines Bluff Post. The Post was writing a story about Sabrina Matthews, former owner of Around the Corner Cafe, who was...
For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church Karel Smock read “Spring Makes All Things New” and “God Never Promised Rainbows.” Then Pastor Opdycke read an article from the Greeley Tribune about attending church. The sermon topic was “On Trial.” Between the hours of midnight and 9 a.m. Jesus went through five trials. The first trial was with high priest Annas. The second trial was with high priest Caiaphas. And the third trial was with the Jewish supreme court. John 18:12-14 an...
Hold onto your hat and put rocks into your pockets! My gosh was the wind ever trying to blow my house down. How about you? Do you dislike it as much as I do? Beautiful day except for that outrageous wind Monday morning. Hopefully the weather will just continue to improve as the week wears on. Our girls’ traveling basketball team finished up this past weekend in Chadron. One heartbreaker was a one point loss, but they learned a lot in the over all course of their time spent. Thank you very m...
The fire department’s chili and oyster soup feed this past weekend was fantastic, as usual. Sorry I got the date wrong in the news! The Granny Craft Club meets on Tuesday, April 8. The Calvary United Methodist Women meet on Wednesday, April 9. The village board meets at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9. If y...
Hopefully you weren’t fooled too much Tuesday. I think the biggest fool around is the weatherman. That old “lion” seemed to have eaten the “lamb.” The roads around home are drying up and the spring flowers are starting to find their way through the mud. Soon it will be time for the little guys to start running on the green green grass of the sports fields. Jillian McLaughlin tells us spring soccer season will start soon. If you want to sign up your little guy or possibly coach or ref, contact t...

1 years ago April 3, 1914 The City of Cheyenne, capitol of the state of Wyoming, has been notified that if it expects to secure the control station for passing aeroplanes during the flight from the Atlantic to the Pacific next year it must dig down and secure in the neighborhood of $10,000 for prizes. Cheyenne wants to become control station, but from a report in the Cheyenne papers the people of the neighboring country must do the digging if Cheyenne is to get the station. Cheyenne shows usual loyalty to her patrons of the surrounding...
Last week I gave an example of what rancher/farmer Gabe Brown, from Bismarck, North Dakota has accomplished on his operation by focusing his efforts on soil health. Over the past 15 years, Gabe has dramatically improved the health of his soil. This improved soil health has lowered his cost of production and improved the profitability of his operation considerably. This path towards soil health has been cleared by people like Gabe and has given us a blue print of how we can begin improving the he...

Underclassmen on the Pine Bluffs boys track and field team will be heavily relied on this year, as the team goes into the 2014 season without a large number of upperclassmen. But Head Coach Dustin Lee says some talented freshmen are on board, and willing to work. “We graduated some talent last season. However, we once again have a large freshmen class with some potential talent, so the rebuilding will continue just as it did last year,” Lee said. Lee said the team’s strengths cover many areas...
Head Coach of the Lady Hornets track and field team Dustin Lee is looking to his seniors this year to mentor a team with many freshmen. “This year’s girls team will have some great talent. Unfortunately, we are senior and freshmen dominant in our numbers. There aren’t a lot of 10th and 11th graders on the team this year,” Lee said. “I will be looking to my seniors to mentor our young girls.” Lee said the strength of the team this year will be the seniors, specifically three girls who have pa...
Zachary Laux [email protected] Last year’s Lady Broncs track and field team set the bar high after placing first in the state competition, presenting a challenge to those running, jumping and throwing in the 2014 season, said Coach Brooks Hoffman. “It will be difficult to match last year’s performances, but with a very energetic and young team it will be a fun season to see them progress and develop as a squad,” Hoffman said. Hoffman said he has a younger team of girls this year, b...
Zachary Laux [email protected] As the boys Burns track and field team finishes its first meet of the season, the team looks to improve and place well in state. Head Coach Cole Manlove said, in order to accomplish that goal, the team will need to perform better in field events. “We need to place in some field events if we want to finish in the top three at our state meet,” Manlove said. “Our under class men really need to step up to be a strong team.” Manlove said he is pleased with the team th...
