  • Pine Bluffs elementary reaches out to Newtown, Connecticut

    Submitted|Apr 11, 2013

All students and staff of Pine Bluffs Elementary are asked to donate one quarter - $.25, to our Reach Out to Sandy Hook Elementary fund. The money will be used to purchase a gift and make a donation to the school community in Newtown Connecticut. It is quite possible that none of us will forget the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut in December. The heartache of that event has been felt in schools across the nation as teachers, students, and parents examine safety protocols and continue to work to make our schools safer...

  • A race in Australia starts in a bowling alley

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Apr 11, 2013

Burns sophomore Ashley Turner was given something better than new spikes recently. After being selected to compete in the highly selective national competition, Down Under in Australia, Ashley set out to find sponsors for the trip. After raising $2,900 on her own, Turner started a 50/50 raffle at the bowling alley where her dad competes in leagues action. One of the bowlers purchased $100 in raffle tickets and ended up winning the raffle. “He gave me back the money he won and told me to let h...

  • Add a little tart to your diet

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Apr 11, 2013

The mild days, the spring blizzards, and the mud in the roads are calling the kids to play outside. It’s time to pucker those cheeks for a bit of a tart experience. Many dessert recipes call for the split personality plump berries that sprout in our fresh produce section this time of year. But those oddly round fruits with their sugary sweet exterior and the punch of tangy tart insides are a nifty addition to salads and main dishes, too. My family likes having fresh berries or any fruit on t...

small amount of rain this past weekend, and it was wonderful! By the time this comes out we may have several inches, or feet, of snow. The last few times the weather people have predicted blizzards, they have not manifested. We shall see. The mobile lab for the Ag students is supposed to arrive Tuesday, and we also have a planned field trip, the weather may change all of that. The Harrisburg Community Church hosted carry-in pot luck after church services last Sunday. As always there was a lot...

Who knew we had such amazing thespian talent here in Burns? Burns High School held a dinner theatre on Thursday and Friday nights last week to a sold out crowd. A good time was had by all who went to watch “Pirates of Penzance”. Everyone who later came into the library has raved about the wonderful play and dinner. Burns High School’s prom was held on Saturday, at the Cheyenne Depot. Congratulations go out to Cassy Underwood and Cole Bostron for being named queen and king; to Jessica Phillippe and Colby Ward for being named princess and princ...

  • Hereford News

    Carolyn Ragsdale|Apr 11, 2013

The Hereford Community Church was privileged to have special guests this week. Leonard Sanders and his wife, Susan, represented the Gideons. Steve Hauer told about the song “What If I Give All” and how it relates to present day for the special, then Mr. Sanders gave a message about the Gideons. The Gideons distribute Bibles all over the world and all money given goes towards purchasing Bibles. The Gideon members are all volunteer. They pay their own way and their dues pay the administrative cos...

What a mild couple of days. The birds were singing pretty loud and I was raised thinking that meant a storm was on its way. Only time will tell. But the yard is ready for spring and the children are ready to play outside. The Bountiful Baskets will be delivered Saturday at the community center. You need to order your basket by Tuesday, so you have missed this week. But stop by Saturday morning, volunteer and see what it is all about. And mark on your calender to order April 22 and 23. Elections...

  • Looking Back

    Apr 11, 2013

1 years ago The annual conference of the Church of the Latter Day Saints was opened at Salt Lake by President Joseph F. Smith. A great many persons who are trying to grow strawberries do not know that there is a question of sex in the plants. That is also true of many nurserymen, and scores of growers are disappointed every year because the plants they buy do not bear fruit. The male plant in strawberries is what is known as the staminate or bi-sexual, a perfect flowering plant. The female plant is known as the pistillate, and useless unless...

  • Are you, can you, really follow Jesus?

Cynthia Shroyer, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Apr 11, 2013

Tell me if you’ve read this before — Heavenly Father, We come before You today to ask Your Forgiveness and seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘’Woe to those who call evil good,’’ but that’s exactly what we have done. We have lost our Spiritual equilibrium and inverted our values. We confess that; we have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it pluralism; We have worshiped other gods and called it multiculturalism; We have endorsed perversion and called it...

  • No-till notes - Irrigated no-till economics

    Mark Watson|Apr 11, 2013

No-till crop production has proven to be the best production system for conserving moisture. Leaving the previous crop’s residues on the soil surface and attached has improved water infiltration into the soil and reduced soil moisture evaporation. Numerous research projects have shown the moisture conservation that no-till crop production provides under irrigation. The University of Nebraska has conducted research at the North Platte research farm which has shown that leaving residues on the s...
