Councilor Alan Curtis suggested using revenue from the sixth-penny sales tax to hire contract labor to help with the project. Pine Bluffs Town Treasurer Kim Patterson said the RV park, which is open year-round, brings in a "good deal of revenue." "We have averaged $101,000. The...

It is a recession when you lose your job. It is a depression when I lose mine. – Old saying. With the loss of over 5,000 energy jobs, it should be interesting to readers to read about what happened during the last Wyoming bust at the most mining-oriented town in the state. Here is that story: In February 1993, a book was widely quoted around the country, which rated the 100 best small towns in America. Lander ranked number 5 and was prominently mentioned by the author during a visit to the N...

Good morning! A fine December morning it is here at my house. Mother Nature knows very well that it is April, but she chooses to throw a temper tantrum if she wants to, to the tune of at least five inches here over the weekend. Boy am I glad that I did not set out those new plants that are sitting on my kitchen counter. I mowed the front yard just a day or two before the snow hit and that was good enough for now, surely it will warm up to stay before long. The 2016 Prom for our kids is this...
We hope you all made it through the weekend storm with no major problems. It did give us some good moisture. There was no church at the Hereford Community Church last Sunday. Next Sunday, April 24, the sermon topic will be Hope. On May 8 there will be a special guest speaker from the Gideons. We hope there will be a good attendance. The Gideons are a very good organization and their speakers are always interesting. If you have news to share you can contact me at 970-895-2433 or email...
April in Wyoming often means wet ugly snow storms. It seems, however, the more warning and preparation we get, the weaker the storm gets. Not that anyone will complain about the little storm this past weekend. Perhaps everyone was encouraged to plan for more spring and less spring storms. Spring means cute dresses for the girls, flowery hats for the ladies and hosted teas for all that cuteness and flowers to gather. The Albin Baptist Church had a great turnout for their tea, despite the...
I have been discussing in the past several articles important tips for continuous no-till crop production on dry land and irrigated acres. Managing residues begins at harvest with even distribution of the residues at harvest. I’m a big fan of stripper heads in harvesting small grains like winter wheat. The stripper head leaves the residues in place and attached to the soil surface. The entire plant is left undisturbed for maximum residue height. You’re not cutting the residue in half and exp...
1 Years Ago April 20, 1916 A creamery for Pine Bluffs Hardly had our Commercial Club gotten organized in working order before the big problem of locating a creamery in Pine Bluffs was presented to the organization and the way it is going after the proposition moves conclusively that we have some live wires here and that the new organization will accomplish some great things for the town and surrounding country. It took a great deal of wind work here to get the club started, but the storm has subsided and now it is raining results. Last week,...
During their April meeting, Albin town councilors discussed earmarking the remaining $3,400 in the Albin field of interest community fund. The fund is intended for charitable works at community revitalization, but additional money has not been put into the fund since 2009. Councilors discussed revamping the fund, but because of lack of interest, they determined the best course of action would be to divide the fund among communities. “If it didn't work back then, I seriously doubt it is going to work now,” Albin Mayor Kelly Krakow said. The fun...
