    Mark Watson|May 7, 2015

Last week I took a look at the amount of precipitation we have received to produce a winter wheat crop this year and a projected yield for this year’s crop assuming normal precipitation between now and winter wheat maturation. This week I’d like to take a look at field peas and the potential yield for this year’s crop of field peas. Each time I have written an article looking at the moisture and potential yield for these spring crops, it has rained. This past week another storm system moved...

  • Just a few thoughts... on seat belts

    Polly Taylor|May 7, 2015

Every single day, lately, it seems I've been getting notices from the Wyoming High Patrol about another fatality accident. I just received one that said alcohol was being investigated as a contributing factor. This makes almost, if not already, 40 fatalities on Wyoming roads this year. The one thing that the majority of the accidents had in common – those involved were not wearing seat belts. Now, I am going to be honest with you – I dislike seat belts. I really don't know why I don't like the...

  • Looking Back

    May 7, 2015

1 Years Ago May 6, 1915 Our Town Election On next Tuesday, May 11, the people of Pine Bluffs will have an opportunity to elect a mayor and two councilmen. A town election should mean much for a town; there are many questions that the officials have to consider that require good judgement and farsightedness. The success of a county, state or nation depends largely on the administration of their public affairs and the same is true of a city or town. When people elect a man for a public position they should elect the best material possible and...

  • Banner County News

    Barb Cross|May 7, 2015

Good morning. Word of the week around here is soggy. We made it through the majority of the track season and prom with decent weather and we have needed the rain. Now I think we need a dry spell for planting and end of the year field trips. The dandy-lions sure are doing great this year aren't they? I have them in places where they have never been before. Counting today we have 11-1/2 days remaining in the Harrisburg school year. So we are still testing and we are still on the go constantly....

  • Albin News

    Charlene Smith|May 7, 2015

Some efforts seem excessive to us. I have a young man in my life that has more faith than I see in people five times his age. And yet, he put in three years of effort to study Martin Luther’s catechism and receive his first communion this past Sunday. Not all wasted effort is what it seems. Who knows how many Derik Earl Smith will encourage with his educated faith. Congratulations, Derik, for reaching another high limb to rest on for a while. Parents sometimes take us to the high parts of the t...

  • Don't Worry, Be Happy?

    Crabbie Abner|May 7, 2015

The other day a friend of mine gave me a recipe she had found, and thought I would find it cute because of the name of the recipe. She was mistaken. Although this recipe tastes like a little slice of heaven, I really think it could have been more appropriately named, something other than ‘Anti-Crabby’ Cake. It’s difficult for me to turn my back on something that tastes so good, especially when you don’t have to have a degree from some culinary baking school in order to frost – just leave it in the pan and frost it while it’s warm. Doesn’t get...
