The new Pine Bluffs Elementary School will be the ideal size when constructed. The Wyoming School Facilities Commission Board granted an enrollment projection for the new school of 160 kids, and a square footage of 27,510 to match. "We weren't sure if we were going to get the enrollment to where we wanted and there would have been concerns. We are pretty pleased to be ending up where we are and we're all very excited for the project," said Rob Bryant, Business Manager of Laramie County School...
The Pine Bluffs Town Council revisited and approved a bid from American Contracting Monday night to renovate Reher Park. “I think we need to move ahead with this,” said council member Alan Curtis. The Town Council postponed voting on the renovations at Reher Park in previous meetings to look at other options, including installing artificial turf, rather than sod. The approved bid, at about $322,135, calls for the installation of 70,000 square feet of lawn sod and 27,000 square feet of dry...
I never really think about the moments where my mother has impacted my life. Not even on Mother’s Day. On that day each year, I usually give her a call and tell her how much I appreciate her raising me, but I never give it much more though. But a few days ago I realized just how much I owe my mother in terms of who I am today. For instance, I would have never graduated from college if it weren’t for my mother pushing me to go the extra mile. I wouldn’t have worked in newspapers if it weren’t for...
The Pine Bluffs Elementary School is impressed with Kindergartener Jayden Barnard's positive attitude of being new to the school and new to the country. Barnard is from South Africa. His family moved to Wyoming to work on the Hockersmith farm. Barnard said one of the things that's different here than in Africa is the food. He said he had a few friends in South Africa and after school he would take swimming leasons. "I like playing with my Star Wars legos and hanging out with my mom, because she...

I do believe Spring has sprung, I have dandelions in my lawn anyway. I’ll take them to, it feels good to have some warm weather. The seniors at this time are off on their “educational trip” which is just being politically correct in saying that they are on sneak. Personally I like the “sneak” version much better. This class of 2014 will be graduating on May 17 at 3 p.m. The kindergarten class will be holding their graduation Thursday, at 1 p.m. If you are not personally connected to any of th...
For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church Andrea Reifschneider read “The Armor of God.” The sermon topic was “Hurry Up And Wait.” The scripture was James 5. The book of James was written by James the brother of Jesus. This book gives instructions for daily living. Chapter 5 warns people not to love money more than they love God. Then he tells people to be patient until the Lord returns. Whatever problems you may face, don’t get in a big hurry. Pray and wait for God to take care...
Nice weather report from Albin. We enjoyed a beautiful weekend and didn’t start the week with a snow storm. The tulips are popping open all over town. John Eklund is doing well. The last few weeks of school have found their way onto the calendar. The Albin Wildcats will be released for the summer May 23. The school will have a parent field day May 22. A...
Remember May Day and the tradition of giving May Baskets? Last night at 9 p.m. I heard a knock at the door. When I opened the door no one was there, but I found a little basket filled with all sorts of goodies, even treats for my dogs. I have not received a May Basket since I was a kid. What a wonderful surprise! May also brings the end of the school year and all the track meets, field trips and graduation. Monday, May 1, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.: fourth -sixth grade track meet in Pine Bluffs. Friday May 9: the fourth graders will be going on the...
I have a fun story to share this week: someone who came through Bushnell two years ago looking for directions to the High Point bought a Bushnell t-shirt and wears it regularly. He called me this weekend and said he was wearing it while walking around his neighborhood in the San Francisco area and one of his neighbors stopped him and told him that his wife grew up north of Bushnell. If any of you know or used to know Karen Ross (nee Barrett), she is now the Secretary of Agriculture in...

1 years ago May 8, 1914 Last Saturday evening about 7 o’clock the Shriners’ special from California, heralding its approach by a calliope whistle installed on one of the baggage cars, passed through our city on its way to Atlanta, Georgia, where the special carried a ten million dollar band, and four cars of fruits and wines. The whole train with its glare of light seemed a scene of perfect merriment. The Californians are attempting to secure the Imperial Council for San Francisco in 1915. The merry-makers found no burning sands in Wyo...
If you have been out and about in the countryside lately you’ve undoubtedly noticed a lot of activity. The boys and girls are back in the field to begin another farming season. Along with the activity come the headaches of battling to get the crops planted in the fields. Planting the crops always seems to be the most difficult part of the growing season. Our farming operation is similar to the Husker football team in that we sometimes fail to execute well thought out plans we’ve developed over t...
