Larry Silvey got a pleasant surprise Tuesday afternoon. The Pine Bluffs resident was running errands when he drove by Veterans Memorial Plaza in Pine Bluffs. Silvey, the driving force behind the statues depicting service members at the plaza, has been working to install a mural at the plaza that shows famous American landmarks while also honoring veterans. Last week, Silvey told Pine Bluffs Town Council members that the mural was to be installed on Monday, but bad weather prevented that. So he...

It’s spring and everything seems to be coming to life. Birds are nesting, yards are turning into jungles, and trees and shrubs are budding out. This is the perfect time to plant new trees. New trees can come from a variety of sources, but there are some things to consider before you purchase. To begin with, you’ll need to ask yourself what you want the tree for. Is it intended as an ornamental? Shade? Fruit? Each of these have their own requirements. As you begin selecting the tree be sure to consider its environmental needs. There are several...
With graduation just around the corner, all students know what that means, summer time! Well, practically. Although summer doesn't officially start until the last few weeks of June, the weather lately hasn't seemed to notice. Seniors are done! My biggest upcoming priority has to be sleeping in, but that isn't the only thing that I am looking forward to this summer. I mean, come on, warm weather means water fights with siblings, swimming, camping, hiking, and so many other activities that I've...
James Merryfield "Jim" was born in Souix City, Iowa on August 8 1958. His father was an insurance salesman so they traveled a bit while he was young. Merryfield ended up in the bay area of California. He graduated from De La Salle High School with no real idea of what he wanted to do. His dad had mentioned that he was in the Air Force right before he met Jane Windenberg, who would later become his wife and Jim's mom. "My dad talked about it, and I thought why not. I entered basic training at...

Following second-place finishes at the Eastern Wyoming Track and Field Regional Meet over the weekend, the Pine Bluffs Hornets and Lady Hornets have reason to be optimistic. Just ask head coach Dustin Lee who said his team has a strong chance of bringing back some hardware. But things have to go the right way. It's not going to be easy though with a strong Lovell team predicted to be a front-runner at this year's state meet. "If Lovell has some bad things happen and we have some kids perform...
