On a windy spring day, 25 soon to be alumni of Pine Bluffs high stood over the future and their past as they readied themselves with their selected candle bearers. Some of the selected were too young to understand the day and needed Gatorade and snacks. Others knew all too well the walk down the isle meant stepping away from the close relationship they had known in the past with the graduate. The graduates chose these individuals to walk them down the isle, not to the end of a time, but a...
Inside the Burns high library sat 31 expectant graduates with an individual they chose to escort them down the isle to their future. As they readied themselves for the crowded gym, some took the time to meet and thank loved ones as they arrived. This would be the underlying theme of the afternoon. Cole Bastian delivered the invocation and thanked the families and teachers for supporting the graduates up to this point. Salutatorian Shana Wilcoxson told her class to take a moment and thank the...

Hampered by weather and the lack of meets to compete in, both the boys and girls teams placed twelfth at the state meet last weekend. The girls earned a score of 27, while the boys had 18 points. “The state meet was a tough meet for us,” said coach Dustin Lee. “Although there were some unfortunate happenings it also had some positive ones. Good morning Banner County! If I remember correctly, May came in pretty much like a lion, looks like she may be going out like one too! We have been fortunate enough to have some rain now and then, and appreciate all we can get. School is out for us until August and last Thursday, the fifth and sixth grade classes ended the school year with a bang. They spent the day in Denver at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Three levels of various interests and a bus load of excited kids. Thank you...

Whether Memorial Day weekend finds you cleaning off the graves of loved ones, honoring our fallen military heroes, or possibly appreciating the great outdoors, the stomach will need to be remembered. What better way to honor our heroes than with recipes from each branch of the military. Army cooks have to nourish their soldiers for 10-mile pack runs. So, the heartier, the better. You might not want to eat like the Army everyday unless you are burning huge tanks of calories. Here is a “side d...
With all this cool rain and warm days, we could be fooled into thinking our drought days are behind us. I just wish the rain would not help the dandelions and the sun would scorch them into green grass. Chris Beckman who lives south of Albin wanted everyone to know his wife, Abby, who helps Mike at the bar sometimes, is in ICU at CRMC. Abby has been in the hospital with pneumonia since April 23, and is not doing well. She can’t have flowers in ICU, but Chris hoped everyone would keep Abby in o...
1 years ago Cheyenne, Wyo.,- When Henry Johnson, a ranchman residing near Bucknum, Wyo., hospitably invited Frank Connors and John Williston to come in and have dinner, he did not realize that the pair would be “ready money” for him. They were worth just $400 each, however, as Johnson has been informed by the United States department of justice. He has been notified that reward of $800 will be paid him for arresting the pair. While Williston and Connors were eating dinner Johnson received a t...
We hear often in Christian circles people saying, “I just don’t know how to live for God. I don’t know what He wants.” We constantly wonder to ourselves and aloud just what the will of God is for our lives. The trouble is when He tells us we are busy or closed off, or just not paying attention. I thought of a simple formula to solve this problem when researching addiction for a college class. It’s even easy to remember. The word HOW covers it all. If we want to know how we need to be Honest, O...
No one really knows how far this Brown Revolution can take modern agriculture in this soil health initiative. The last time our soils were really in top soil health was before the prairies were turned into farm land. Through the development of agriculture the soil’s health has declined mostly due to tillage and the removal of plants growing in the soil throughout the growing season. With the introduction of no till crop production, the elimination of tillage, use of cover and forage crops, a...
