Thirty-three tractors left Pine Bluffs in the chilly rain and headed east towards the warm sun rising over Highway 30, Saturday morning. The ride was to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Highway. Each year, tractors from the area make the trip, but this year, the convoy will cross two state lines. The first stop was in Sidney, Neb. where more tractors will join the group and others will turn back to the west for home. Fifteen of the tractors that started out in Pine Bluffs will...
It seems like every year, fewer people choose to follow the entrepreneurial path that has guided my life. Here are a few thoughts on the subject: • Our little book publishing company is very small operation by any means of comparison. Yet it is truly an example of Wyoming entrepreneurship. Not long ago, an agent for the IRS came by and wanted to talk about how we are paying people in our little company. I told him that we have one seasonal part-time employee who delivers books. We pay him a nice...

In the May 23 edition of the Pine Bluffs Post in the article about the Pine Bluffs town council, it was reported that the council approved a building at the RV park not to exceed $45,000. The council is actually installing a new water meter and pit at the RV Park. At this point there is no meter monitoring the water consumption at the park. This meter and pit will also accommodate any future redevelopment of the property. This mistake was due to reporter error and we apologize for any...
On a cold, wet Saturday morning, not much beats warm pancakes and ham before shopping at garage sales. The Pine Bluffs Lions Club flipped soft hot cakes on the hot griddles even as rain drops sizzled on the surface. The warm smell of the cakes drifted through the tractor-filled parking lot, and even folks who just stopped to get a map of the sales had a difficult time resisting a stop for breakfast. Over 40 pounds of ham and 20 pounds of pancake flour along with all the sides were ready for...

The lawn mowers in the evening and the pesky singing birds out my window at 4 a.m. tell me summer is here. And what a better way to begin the outdoor season than with a clean-up. Between the garage sale and the town clean-up, our little community got quite the make-over last week. A big thanks to thanks to mayor Kelly Krakow and son Kelton, councilman Bob Anderson, town maintenance Aaron Anderson, and Jerrie Gehrman for helping with the clean-up. The kids are looking forward to baseball. Stop...
Summer has finally arrived here in Banner County. I would love to complain about the wind, but then I stop and think of places like Oklahoma and decide we don’t have all that much to complain about. Hope your week has gone well. It sure has been busy! Vintage vehicles passed through Harrisburg during their practice run last Friday and competed for real Saturday and Sunday in the annual Sugar Valley Rally. Also, remember the bikers that were traveling through Kimball on old Highway 30, the L...

So I need a screwdriver. Can’t find one, though I know for a fact there are at least 10 of them in my house somewhere. I collect screwdrivers. It wasn’t intentional. I got one in a toolkit from my dad when my kids and I struck out on our own. I “adopted” one when my son left his toolbox at my house when he left home to become a Marine. I still have it years later. I bought one back in Ohio when I got a new car and had to put license plates on. Thought I brought one but forgot to put it in the...

Woman, 101, travels. Recently Mrs. Mary Everett celebrated her one hundred and first birthday. It is rather difficult to say where “Aunt Mary” will be in a few days, for she has the wanderlust and may be “way up in Madawaska or down at Mattawamkeag.” 75 years ago Arvid Anderson of Albin had eight head of fine...
