The 3,000-gallon Port-a-tank – LCFD5 volunteer training exercise 05/24/2021 The port-a-tanks are used by the fire department for emergency use to supply a temporary water resource for fire trucks when there are no nearby fire hydrants. The demand for water can exceed the water carried by the fire tank trucks dispatched to the fire scene so they now carry port-a-tanks. Grassland and rural home fires are just two examples of no hydrants nearby. These portable tanks are easily carried on the side o...

Every time I think I'm going to get ahead of the chores something comes up and I fall further and further behind. Always so much to do and so little time. I thought I was about to get ahead with the yard work and we got a lot of rain. I mean a lot. Since it was spotty around the county I don't know how much you got but it seemed almost like we got the entire year's worth in a few days. Not that I mind but it was so soggy that I couldn't get into the garden or the yard to work. Of course things...
Red, White and Blue! These colors we have all seen, raised our eyes to, and stood with pride saluting her. This is the American Flag. Through her history she has seen pride in the men and women who carry her, to the anger when someone disgraces her, to the tears that have fallen, as she is draped over a coffin of a fallen soldier. This Flag has been called many things: The Stars and Stripes, The Red, White, and Blue, The Star Spangled Banner, and Old Glory. She is found on the grounds of state...

A few weeks ago I was sitting in my car watching the varsity and junior varsity at their football practice. This was to get in shape for the football camp that was coming up. I was watching them go through their drills and sprints and my thoughts floated back to the days that I started my football journey. For you old timers I started out in Pop-Warner league. I remember going through some of the same drills that these young athletes were doing. I remember my first touchdown and first throw; I was the quarterback. Back then, football was kind...

Anyone who’s watching the news, especially over the past year, can see a failed criminal justice system. Remember all the riots across the country? Burning buildings, police precincts destroyed, stores ransacked and looted, people assaulted, and even being murdered. According to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data project (ACLED), a non-profit working in collaboration with a group of researchers at Princeton, 25 people were killed during the riots. Only one of the perpetrators was served by law enforcement. An article in the New York T...
