  • Discussion on drug testing continues

    Polly Taylor|Jun 11, 2015

After voting to approve the first reading of the proposed drug testing policy at the regular May meeting of the board, the subject was moved from an action item to an information and discussion item at the first of three scheduled board meetings for the month of June Monday night. A survey was sent to 608 parents of students in Laramie County School District 2 asking if they believe abuse of drugs and alcohol by students is a problem; would the parents be in favor of a random testing program...

  • Mummies in Wyoming?

    Bill Sniffin|Jun 11, 2015

Mummies are common in the ancient world but were there ever mummies in Wyoming? In at least three cases the answer to that question is yes. West of Cody along the Wapiti Highway to Yellowstone is a site known as Mummy Cave. Reason for that name is “Mummy Joe,” a 1,200-year old body of an Indian male who was discovered in somewhat of a restored state in that cave in 1957 by Gene Smith of Cody. Archeologists say Mummy Cave was occupied for over 8,000 years from 7280 B. C. to 1580 A. D. The sit...

  • Wyoming stream laws

    Submitted|Jun 11, 2015

Even though streams in Wyoming are running very high from the spring snowmelt, it will not be long before the runoff subsides and good fishing conditions return. Currently most of the stream fishing taking place is on tailwater fisheries where flows are controlled from an upstream dam. Whether, the stream is free flowing or a tailwater fishery, public access to these waters is generally quite good due to numerous access easements available to anglers and boaters. But, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department cautions there are some rivers that...

  • X-Stream Angler program offers new fishing challenge

    Submitted|Jun 11, 2015

Now in its fourth year Wyoming’s X-Stream Angler program is drawing interest from anglers who like stream fishing and are looking to try their skill on some of the dozens of instream flow river and stream segments found throughout Wyoming. Regardless of what part of the state anglers are fishing, chances are that a stream with an instream flow water right will be relatively close. An instream flow water right is like a regular water right except it specifies that a defined amount of water is protected in the stream and does not need to be r...

  • Banner County News

    Barb Cross|Jun 11, 2015

Good morning Banner County, neighbors, near and far. What a beautiful Monday morning we woke up to, a great start to a new week. Everything is so green and lush. I am not a farmer, but I have many friends that are and it needs to dry up some. They are trying to plow, plant, and are worried about plants that are in the ground and rot and rust. So maybe the rain could slack off just a little. Swimming pools are opening up and it is finally starting to feel like summer. Vacation Bible School will...

  • Albin News

    Charlene Smith|Jun 11, 2015

Farmers out in their fields and youngsters in the ball field. It must be June. With all the recent rain, both fields are green and ready for growth and play. The pheasants and ducks are still enjoying the makeshift ponds on both ends of town. Speaking of field play, you can still sign up your little sluggers for baseball. Contact the community center for more information. The schedule should be out later this week. Remember to find the time to take in a game and cheer on our Albin Wildcats. As a...

  • No Till Notes: It works

    Mark Watson|Jun 11, 2015

I’ve had several no-till producers around the Panhandle comment on how well their fields have taken in the record setting moisture we received during the month of May. On our farm we recorded 10.3 inches of precipitation during the month of May. I have talked to other producers in our neighborhood who recorded up to 1.5 inches more than we did on our farm. According to my moisture totals we received roughly 13.1 inches of precipitation in April and May. Considering our yearly precipitation a...
