The Burns celebration brought hundreds of people to attend a full day of activities. The Burns Lions Club members hosted the Burns Day annual celebration on Saturday June 10th. The day started at 7:00 a.m. and continued on until 10:00 p.m. for all ages to attend or participate. To start the busy day Laramie County Fire District #6 firefighters put on a free pancake breakfast. A neighborhood night out is coming to Burns for people to engage with the Laramie County Sheriff's department as part of the event. Burns Town council met on June 12th at 6:30 p.m. The town attorney Greg Hacker, had the honor to swear in the mayor and council members. Hacker swore in Mayor Jim Clark first. The cars were racing to the stop point and the people were lining up by the tracks in Albin, Wyoming to see the steam engine, Big Boy No. 4014 on it's first stop during its yearly trip. We are still in a drought over most of our region. Can you believe that! All of Laramie County is abnormally dry except a small portion of the southwest corner. The Bushnell Lions Club offered a new $500 scholarship to one high school senior graduating in the spring of 2023 from Pine Bluffs High School, Kimball High School, or Banner County High School who will attend college or trade school in the fall of 2023. A few weeks ago I covered the signing of Colby Smith. He is a rodeo star attending Burns High School. He plans on going to Casper State College to continue his education and rodeo career. Four local boys, two from the Burns Broncs and two from the State Champion Pine Bluffs Hornets were asked to play for the South team. Burns Broncs Boys Basketball team has a new head coach. On June 5th the boys were introduced to Coach Shawn Mollett. Mollett will assume the reins of the boy's team for the 2023-24 season and beyond. Two retired teachers from Burns Elementary and High School competed in the Valley National 8-Ball League Association (VNEA) World Pool Tournament. Craig and Midori Spatz traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada to showcase their talents at the pool table against some of the best pool players around. The Laramie County chapter of the 4-H club had their annual 4-H shooting meet last weekend the 9th and 10th of June. Teams and clubs from around the county meet at the Pine Bluffs Sportsman's Club range to test their skills in archery, shotgun, 22 pistol and rifle. Over the two-day event these young adults would shoot and fire close to 100 rounds of shotgun and 22 rounds at a series of targets. Scores would be tallied and awards given out at a later date.
