Wyoming newspapers have been publishing public notices since 1887, archaic sounding, but effective in reality. Some have suggested moving public notices to a web site for viewing may be more cost effective in today’s environment. Sounds good, but is inaccurate and contrary to the true meaning of posting them. That being that there is a permanent record that is not subject to change. With today’s technology comes wide opportunity for abuse. Things like the IRS using information as a weapon for...

My daughter had a bike accident Friday. It was no big deal, scary for mom and her due to the lack of complete certainty that everything was going to be alright. But a trip to the ER and four stitches later, we found ourselves at Dairy Queen admiring her new scratches and bruises, not appreciating how blessed we were. Not more than 24 hours later, a classmate of my youngest daughter died due to a tragic accident. A fluke. One of those sets of moments life drops on unsuspecting families all too...

Bing! Bang! Boom! Snap! Crackle! Pop! Zing! Perhaps sounds at your breakfast table, but this is the season of the firework. The big bang. The loud boom. The glow in the dark and the puff of smoke on the sidewalk. We’d like to pay homage to those little “chicken screechers” and M98’s by celebrating the light and sound of the firework in print. In the next three weeks, we look forward to the hot day loaded with red, white and blue, chilled down by cool beverages and baked by hot grills in a three...

Yeah, right, you say. Like anyone can afford to eat out every night. My friends you can afford to eat out every night, outside on the deck. On almost every tip sheet to keep your house cooler in the warmer months is to eat cold food. I like cold food and it has its place, but every night? I’ll take the microwave before a weeks worth of cold cuts. How about some dinner ideas that don’t heat the house or your debit card by dining “out?” Everyone knows how to grill the main course. Today, let’s f...

We are entering this week with one left in the month of June. Unbelievable. I feel the summer slipping by and I really don’t want that! Waking up Monday felt like being in a fairy world with so much fog we couldn’t see across the yard. No wind which was a break for the flowers, and me too! Our calendar here at home is not quite so busy and I am thankful for that. My granddaughter attended Camp Judson last week and I was fortunate enough to be able to go for the last two days. What a great exp...

The Hereford Community Church celebrated fathers on Sunday and the fathers chose the hymns. Steve Hauer sang “My Dad Is Watching Me” for the special. The sermon title was “Dad, I’m Following You.” Pastor Opdycke stressed to fathers that your children are watching you. Fathers need to teach by example. Lead your children as Jesus leads you. You are not alone in this life. God is with you. Psalm 78:1-8 tells us that we learned from our ancestors and we are to teach the next generation about God...
Mountain Pine Beetle, Pine Bark Beetle, Black Hills Beetle, Rocky Mountain Pine Beetle… and sometimes described by other, more colorful explicative terms, are all the same little guy… Dendroctonus ponderosae, He is less than 3/16 of an inch long, like a small black grain of rice…a little bit bigger than a piece of broken lead from your pencil…yet he can cause unimaginable damage. . He is here and the game is on. The score, so far, is not so good - 3.6 million acres to the credit of the Bark Be...
