The first town council meeting for July started out with a resignation. Michael "Bubba" Ragsdale resigned his assignment on the landfill board as he begins a new position as the landfill manager. With changes already in motion including some new hours for garbage drop off Ragsdale will hopefully be able to tighten up garbage collection for the town. The appointment to the landfill board was handed to Councilman Donn Randall, who will now oversee that and the senior center. A discussion of the...

One of the first things that the governor pointed out was that it is a well known fact that Wyoming lives on a boom and bust cycle and that at this time politicos are looking for potential strategies to move forward and diversify our economy through those cycles. What a contrast! Last week as I wrote the article it was still cold. This week we've had temperatures over 90 degrees nearly all week. Maybe summer really has made its appearance after all. At least, summer in Wyoming. Now the question becomes one of what will those extreme temperature fluctuations do to the plants? Unfortunately, not much that is good. All plants need at least a little time to prepare for a change in season. That means that the more gradual the temperature change, the better...

December 10, 1869, marked the day when the unconditional law allowing women to vote and hold office was passed in Wyoming. Fifty years ahead of the rest of the nation in this single act Wyoming earned its nickname as the Equality State when twenty-one years later it became the forty-forth state in the Union. Originally told that Wyoming would only be allowed in the Union if it rescinded the suffrage law, Wyoming legislature was quoted to say, "We will remain out of the Union one hundred years...
CHEYENNE – Wyoming's official nickname is The Equality State. Wyoming has work to do to live up to that moniker. June 10 was Equal Pay Day in Wyoming. It's the day of the year that represents the extra days in 2019 a woman has to work to earn the same amount of pay a man received for working in 2018. In other words, a woman in Wyoming has to work 17 months and 10 days to earn what a man in Wyoming earned in only 12 months. Remember also that the national Equal Pay Day was April 2. Wyoming does not score well here either. We are behind the n...
