A Sunday afternoon 30 years ago this week found me busy sitting at my desk as editor-publisher of our local newspaper office. While the weather was beautiful outside, there was work to be done inside. It was impossible to not keep looking out the window. The beautiful Lander weather beckoned to me. My output just kept getting slower. The sun was shining on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Yet here I was, inside my office, pounding on the keys of a computer terminal. I picked up the telephone and...

U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., released the following statement on the administration’s announcement today of a proposed rule to repeal the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule. “The overreaching Waters of the United States rule would allow Washington to regulate nearly every creek and pond,” Enzi said. “The EPA should not have complete control over one of Wyoming’s most precious resources. For the sake of farmers, ranchers and small businesses, I am pleased that the Trump Administration is taking this important step to overturn the Water...

Good morning Banner County, friends near and far! What a warm, wonderful weekend we have just had. Last week I wished you all a great 4th of July and today I will repeat that with thoughts of all of the celebrations that will soon be memories. With the holiday being on a Tuesday this year many folks had an extra long ‘weekend‘. The local area lakes were packed with tents and campers, jet skis and boats. Kids, hotdogs, and sand buckets were loaded and unloaded. Even with sunscreen some of tho...

Heroes come in every shape and size. Some have saved us from ourselves. Some step in and protect us from the local and global bullies. Some just quietly live their lives and save us from a life of not knowing what true courage looks like. They quietly fight the battle that has been given them. Never complaining. Always inspiring us who forget how lucky we had it until we see their triumphs just to live. Albin Day theme this year is “Hometown Heroes.” Albin, like most small towns, has more tha...
With nine lives at their disposal, perhaps felines can afford the luxury of curiosity. That knowledge was likely of little solace to Jdam the cat during his recent 13-day ordeal in the last half May. Jdam is the therapy cat of Kevin Borquez who suffers from PTSD. He is a feral cat who is the progeny of one of the tom cats who search the area around Third and Beech, especially the property of Edna Hickman, for felines in heat. On a day in June of last year, Borquez was in the laundry room of the...
Every week, new names are added to the leaderboard of the Pine Bluffs Roping and Barrrel Racing series. Seemingly out of the woodwork, latecomers make a push for the top position and make a run for first place. Competitors who just started earning points within the past week or two have already made progress and find themselves within striking distance. What it all comes down to is who is going to stay strong during the few remaining weeks until the series wraps up on July 21. While others look...

Each year, the trucks need to have their pumps tested to insure they are running up to specification. The LCFD...
Smores, the goat, was perhaps thinking that the greener grass on the other side of the fence would be more to his liking. Smores is one of 24 goats owned by Trent Werner, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Werner of Pine Bluffs. Werner initially got a deal on a few goats. The intention was to employ the goats as a weed and grass removal operation on the Werner property across the alley from their home. After a time, a few goats turned in to 24 on the property, all belonging to Trent. "They're all his,...
