Almost daily, America reels from a new affront to the Constitution and the noble principles of the nation’s founding, evoking horrified responses from “We the People” who are continually stunned that such events could be taking place here. Clearly, those at the highest levels of the monstrosity we call the federal government now believe they have been unleashed from such quaint notions as their oaths of office or the rule of law. Implementing the next portion of the leftist agenda is merel...
Lady luck smiles on certain numbers. Odd numbers usually. But then, some odd numbers, 13 for example, which is the year we are stuck in for another five months, is frowned upon because it seems to cause so much misfortune. Today could be lucky. If you live close enough to a 7/11 you can get a free Slurpee from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Or maybe you want to hop on a junket to Vegas and roll the months’ paycheck on 7,11 and 13 tonight? Maybe get married? Lots of fun can be done with numbers. Maybe just p...

It looked more like a three-step or two-step but the young, old and middle aged alike enjoyed the cool breezes of table top fans as they sashayed Sunday afternoon at the Historic High School in Pine Bluffs. The Dalton Fuller Band strummed many tunes, including pop country hits such as the “Watermelon Crawl” while over 30 couples from Pine Bluffs, Sidney, Cheyenne and Scottsbluff danced away a summer afternoon. Cowboy hats, iced tea and lemonade along with personal drinks kept everyone cool unt...

Wyoming Senator Mike Enzi made the rounds in the state last week, conducting listening sessions in seven locales including Pine Bluffs. At the conclusion of the listening session, Enzi repeated what the concerns were and addressed each one briefly. “Te...
In our small community, we gasp, mourn and cry with our own when they lose or fall, encourage them to get back up again when they doubt their future, and root and celebrate when they come back. We have two bright examples in our meager little community of “comeback kids”. Richard Larson is showing us all there is life after sorrow and hope in walking the path God has given. We are happy for you, Richard and enjoy this time. Tim Malm has published a book about his harrowing experience in the last...
Thanks to everyone who attended the bookstore’s anniversary celebration! We had a great day surrounded by friends. We also had a fun visitor at the bookstore last week — a woman from California who is distantly related to the namesake of our town, Cornelius Bushnell. She was excited to hear the story behind our village and she took home a Bushnell t-shirt as a memento. Connie Hottell would like to thank everyone who helped look for her dog on Independence Day — she is grateful to have him back....
For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church Shirley Wiggin read a page from a book written by Loretta Jewell about Hereford. It was communion this week and the congregation burned their burdens and took communion. The sermon title was “Living Calmly.” Fear is gripping our country. Eighty percent of Americans are under stress. John 14:25-27 tells us that the Holy Spirit brings peace. If we will trust in God and follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, we will have peace. Never for...
Good morning Banner County, neighbors and friends. I am hoping that your 4th of July celebration was a great one. Our bunch enjoyed fireworks compliments of the folks at LaGrange. They always do a nice job and this year was better. A big ‘Thank You’ to them. Bridgeport had rodeos and fireworks and fireworks were exploded by all of our neighboring towns as well. All of this in celebration of our freedom, which we tend to take for granted sometimes. I was recently in an area of Missouri that is...
Red, purple, pink, and every shade in between is starting to pop up in the produce isle, on bushes, trees and shrubs. These little orbs and funny looking fruits are tempting us to eat healthier and sweeter. They can also help us cool off this summer with drinks and cool treats for our tables. I discovered Mojitos at my sister’s home a few summers ago. They are usually mixed with rum, but knowing I come with four non-drinkers, she added the rum to the adult drinks. All four of my children s...

1 years ago The Cheyenne correspondent of the Rocky Mountain News gives Wyoming a black eye for the sake of fifteen cent space filer. Here it is: “Cheyenne, Wyo., July 8. — Farmers of southeastern Wyoming are praying for rain. Their situation has become desperate as a result of the dry spell, and crops are shriveling in the fields. Unless there is rain before the end of the week the situation will be hopeless.” The next thing we see from this “wish-father to thought,” penny hirer will be that...
Everyday when I go to work I have to get ready; prepared to meet the day’s challenges. I have to shower, dress, eat breakfast, grab my food for the day, make sure I bring everything I need to the office to get my job done. The best thing for me to do is to prepare the day before. Actually preparing a week ahead is better. If I do that I find I am not wandering around making poor decisions that will harm me. If I plan ahead I can look at my schedule and find a place in each day for the i...
Our way of life in agriculture across the breadbasket of America is being threatened by special interest groups who disagree with how we conduct our business. These special interest groups disagree with how we produce the food which feeds the world. Our image as stewards of the land and livestock is being tainted and it’s important we start telling our side of the story. These special interest groups are well organized and well funded. Their sole intention is to dictate policy so the food we pro...
