  • Winds that out-blow any other gusts in the country

    Bill Sniffin|Jul 16, 2015

Although local Wyomingites are not surprised by this fact, out-of-staters are always stunned by the velocity of our wind. It is scary powerful. And it is probable that our wind is cursed more often than it is viewed as a blessing. But when it comes to the future of renewable energy in America, Wyoming’s abundant, cool afternoon winds are viewed as a gold mine. And one of the biggest prospectors in this modern day gold rush is an incredibly patient Denver billionaire with some Wyoming history. P...

  • Card of Thanks

    Carmela Graves|Jul 16, 2015

As we live our nightmare we find peace in knowing what great communities we are part of. Our families have done so much for us that we can't begin to thank you enough for all you have done. Thank you to our families for being with us at the hospital and supporting us. We can't begin to express our thankfulness for all the food that so many people have provided to our family. We are eating in a situation that we might not be if it wasn't for all the wonderful food being brought in. We are so thankful for all the visits from our family, friends,...

  • Albin Council discusses road bid

    Darrel Miller|Jul 16, 2015

Mayor Kelly Krakow called the Albin Town council to order and the floor was opened to discuss the Larson road bids. Knife River's Dan Hawk presented the bid amount. The Council felt the amount was too high for the budget. Mayor Krakow asked Hawk, “Could the amount be lowered if we wait to do it later?” Hawk indicated the amount would not substantially change from the initial bid. A discussion ensued about other options for covering the road. Hawks offered a couple of alternatives that included milling the road. He added, “You would have to cr...

This past Friday night marked the fourth rodeo of the Double Bar G Summer series, and there are only two dates left before buckles and all-around winners are named during Trail Days in Pine Bluffs on July 31. This week saw some new names rise to the top, while some of those at the top remained there, and others, well, we can't all have winning times. Bohdi Coombs had a qualifying ride in Steer Riding, with a score of 62. However, there were no qualifying rides in Novice Bull Riding. Each week...

  • Atlanta Drum Corps

    Darrel Miller|Jul 16, 2015

At 3:30 am on the morning of July 9, four buses rolled quietly into town carrying 150 young musicians traveling together with the Spirit of Atlanta Drum Corps. In Pine Bluffs they found a place to rest, practice and prepare for their next competition in Laramie. A fifth truck, the food truck, parked and quickly set about work preparing food for their young charges. One of those cooks, Sue Bailey, was a Drum Corps member from 1977-1980, and is on the board of directors. With her morning routine,...

  • No Till Notes: High Plains Ag Lab

    Mark Watson|Jul 16, 2015

One of our visits during the Panhandle No-till Partnerships field days included a morning tour of the High Plains Ag Lab located near Gurley, Nebraska. Dr. Cody Creech and Dr. Karla Jenkins took the time out of their busy schedules to show our group the exciting research they are conducting at the University of Nebraska research farm. I really appreciate all the hard work Cody and Karla do to help agricultural producers in our region. I also want to thank them again for taking our group for a...

  • Albin News

    Charlene Smith|Jul 16, 2015

Some weekends are more exciting than others. We mark the date on our calendar, plan ahead for time off, cook special treats for the meals, invite family and friends to join us, and then, when the day finally comes, we savor every minute. Albin Day is especially exciting for Albin residents, and the friends and family that drive in to join us. With all the food, traffic, laughing and enjoying, a few people still found it possible to shingle their roof Saturday. Perhaps they had a more exciting...

    Darrel Miller|Jul 16, 2015

Mayor Ralph Bartels opened the Burns town council meeting then inquired about any public comments. Sonia Rey, representing a recycling firm in Cheyenne, presented the town of Burns with an opportunity to recycle glass. “There would be no cost to the Town of Burns,” she continued, “You would need to provided the collection bins, but we would come and collect for free once a month. Thereafter it would cost forty dollars per pickup.” Sonia pointed out some of the uses of recycled glass including mulch, and would make the town cleaner and greener...

  • Banner County News

    Barb Cross|Jul 16, 2015

Good morning Banner County, neighbors near and far! Wheat harvest is still something we are looking forward to as not a whole lot of it has been accomplished as of yet. Getting closer though; getting closer and warding off the hail. It was a beautiful week end for anyone who attended all, or parts of the 94th Annual Oregon Trail Day celebration though. I had a terrific summer cold that I picked up from Ayden so I avoided all of that stuff this year. Except the carnival. Which I would like to...
