Good morning Banner County! We have enjoyed some pleasantly cool mornings the past few days and rain! Some wheat and corn fields may survive until harvest yet. I certainly hope so. So many of our community members have been hailed out, some totally destroyed. We hate to see that and as we see the combines begin to roll into our area we keep a close eye on the weather, right along with you. One thing the hail hasn’t managed to destroy is the weeds. Things are looking pretty shabby around our l...
Please feel free to call, 547-2249; e-mail, [email protected] or just stop by with your news and information. Who is buried in the middle of the Cheyenne Frontier Days arena? Steamboat was the star horse of the bucking bronco events at Cheyenne Frontier Days from 1901 to 1914. He was named Steamboat because he had a broken bone in his nose which caused him to make a snorting sound like a steamboat. One of the nation’s best, and most distinctive logos, the image on Wyoming’s uniforms depicts a cowboy riding a bucking horse. This symbol has be...

Pastor Opdycke told two stories to illustrate. The first story was abo...
Albin News Readers, Monte here after a one year hiatus which began with the birth of our second son. On Sunday, Mr. Tavin Ronald Lerwick turned one year old. He unwittingly celebrated by grabbing a handful of delicious chocolate frosted cupcake while all the people at the table sang a strange song. Mom usually isn’t that careless with cupcakes so he made sure to quickly jam as much as possible in his mouth once he got it there. Please don’t expect a regular supply of news from me, but I aim to...

A friend shared this saying with me. It was brought to her by way of her elementary school-aged daughter. It sounded vaguely familiar, but right off the bat I couldn’t figure out why. Here it is: “I’m Burger King and you’re McDonalds. Gonna have it my way and you’re gonna like it.” Yeah. Read that one again. And maybe a third time or fourth. I laughed at first when I read it. Then it wasn’t so funny. I know I’ve heard that phrase before, but the part that struck me hardest was I can remember sa...
1 years ago Last Monday morning a crew started in to move the Union Pacific depot to the new site where the old stock yard stood. Up to the time of going to press the depot still stands on the old location, but the structure has been jacked up and is about ready for the pull. It has not been fully decided whether the depot will be skidded, rolled or hauled to the new site. Wednesday afternoon, as usual, the clouds again hovered over the Pine Bluffs District in thick masses, but this time the...
Right now the grills are as busy as a bee at the Rose Bowl Parade. It’s so hot, though, no one is thinking football or flowers. Just focusing on the tick-tick-tick-whoosh of the sprinkler and little giggling voices coming from the swimming pool. Not even the hum of the air conditioner can drown out the gurgle of your stomach. It’s dinner time. Grill time. Just in time to accompany grilled creations, farmers markets are in full swing. Giant juicy tomatoes, stalks of asparagus, fresh-dug car...
