Summer storms with lightning are suspected in starting the fast spreading Carter Canyon fire. The origin of the fire is believed to be started by lightning about five miles southwest of Gering, Nebraska. This quick moving fire has consumed over 13,000 acres and is only about thirty percent contained. The urgency of this fast moving fire brought a call out to all area fire departments. Renewal of a cleaning contract and the discussion of plans for a new subdivision were in the forefront of the town council meeting. The Burns Town Council met on July 25th at 5:30 p.m. at town hall. Virginia L. Stephens of Cheyenne passed away peacefully on July 13, 2022, at her home with her daughters by her side. She was born on Mother's Day, May 14, 1933, to Jay and Iwana (Dot) Brown in Kimball, Nebraska. She was raised and graduated from Pine Bluffs High School in 1951. Virginia married Richard D. Helen Martin passed away on July 31st, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born on February 7th, 1933 in Ionia, Michigan to Earl and Hazel Longwell. After graduating high school, she married Gerald Martin on September 16, 1950. Three weeks after their wedding, Gerald was drafted into the Korean War. Laramie County Ranch Rodeo rides again. The teams were lined up to do their events for the beginning of the Laramie County Fair which started on July 23rd with the Ranch Rodeo.
