Monday voted to absorb a retirement system contribution rate increase for public employees. Contributions will increase of increments of .5 percent over the next four years, leading to a total increase of 2 percent, Pine Bluffs Treasurer Kim Patterson said during Monday’s town council meeting. The increases will not directly impact public employees as the town will absorb the rate hike. This year’s increase, effective Sept. 1, will cost the town $2,300. Nineteen teams participated in the 26th annual tournament with 37 games being played between two courts. Trophy balls were awarded to four players. Doug Fornstrom and Conner Graves received a ball for serving 15-straight points to win a set. Colby Lamb and Dan Haukap received awards for "under the water over the net awesome play." Former Pine Bluffs High School distance-running standout Alejandro Garcia put on a familiar show Saturday, Aug. 4 as he won the 17th annual Longhorn Stampede 5K. It wasn’t close as he finished with a time of 15:20. That’s less than a 5-minute mile. Fifty-one competitors turned out to compete in the early-morning run which took place in Pine Bluffs.
