Mixed in the air along with the laughter and scent of grilled hamburgers was a feeling of hometown at the City Park grand opening Sunday afternoon. About 100 people enjoyed the festivities sponsored by the Pine Bluffs Fire Department. There was a climbing slide for the kids and a dunk tank with the police department taking a dip whenever a ball connected with the target. If the hot dogs, hamburgers and corn on the cob didn’t fill up the guests, the Pine Bluffs recreation department had free c...
Newcomers might find this hard to believe, but a common form of measurement a few decades ago, when it came to traveling Wyoming’s long distances, was: “How many beers does it take to get there?” For decades, our state did not have open container laws. It was accepted that folks traveled distances with a cooler of beer to sustain them. Thankfully, this culture of combining alcohol with travel has virtually disappeared. The toll of killed and injured people left in its wake enlightened our lawma...
Dear Editor, The August 15 issue of the Pine Bluffs Post contained an article on the school board meeting of August 12 in Burns. In that article, the writer stated that the conversation regarding the English/Language Arts curriculum “centered around vocabulary and setting expectations too high for some students.” I agree that there was considerable discussion about vocabulary, but no one on the board even implied that we in Laramie 2 are setting expectations too high. Such a statement sug...

This was a reporting error and we apologize for the mistake....

Have you ever been “advised” or scolded about eating or drinking something you “shouldn’t?” Until a week ago, I was as free and willing with my intake of food as a dam door opening up after a heavy downpour allowing water to flow past. Anything, as long as it tasted good, was welcomed on my plate. However, due to age, genetics and too many years of leaving the “dam door” open, my doctor is advising me to “make some lifestyle changes.” Which means quit eating what you love. But does it? There ar...

Good morning Banner County! Hooray, school has started once again and 2013-2114 is off to a grand start. Buses were seen all over the county as excited students, teachers, and parents awaited their arrival for the first day of school Monday, Aug.19. Everyone that I have talked to seems to think that this summer has just flown by. I know it sure has for me. Up until this weekend, I was not all that ready for the kids at our house to go back. All of that has changed … I am ready! They are too, r...
For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church Karel Smock read “So God Made A Farmer.” Pastor Opdycke gave a brief report on her trip to Ohio. After the service the congregation enjoyed a potluck dinner. The bell ringer from the Galeton area performed and there were games for the children to celebrate Hereford Day. Next week the...

Over 300 bookworms signed up locally for the program that offered incentives for reading. Mick stole the show with his massive presence, and owner Julie Bostwick...
Cheyenne Matthews was not just racing against the top women’s class contenders last Sunday, she was also pitted against Mother Nature. The latest race day, held at the Archer Complex in Cheyenne, provided sheeting downpours, lightning, a bit of hail, and winds that sent several race canopies into the facilities dumpsters after being ripped to shreds. The first motto of the day saw fair and hot conditions and Matthews grabbed the whole shot and led the race for two laps before going down on an o...
1 years ago Everybody is eating roasting ears. There is good money in hogs and every farmer should have a few. Albin Anderson says he has the best crops in his neighborhood, and from the looks of things, his say is true, but James Johnson also claims honor for the best what is. Both are good and it will take the threshing machine to decide which is better. Shoshoni.- A bolt of lightning, which struck the residence of T.E. Prill, killed a sheep, a dog and a cat, which were sleeping in the same...
I’ve been writing about my limited experience with cover crops grazed for forage and planted back to a cash crop. It may be in today’s modern production agriculture we need to adopt the same concepts used a few generations ago to manage their fertility concerns prior to the adoption of commercial fertilization. We may have overlooked or forgotten the concepts our fathers and grandfathers used to improve their soils, the same soils we are working with today. I came across a picture of my gra... Full story
