Wyoming governors historically love hosting the One Shot Antelope Hunt in Lander. Gov. Matt Mead is no exception and will be hosting his fourth hunt on Sept. 20. The hunt now in its 71st year is a competition where three-man teams compete to see who can kill Pronghorn bucks the quickest and with just one shot each. Vyrna Grace (Nichols) Pavlica passed away on July 27, 2014. She was 92 years old and was at home in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Vyrna was born July 15, 1922, in Canon City, Colo., to George and Grace Nichols. She was a long-time resident of Burns, where she and her husband Alex Pavlica farmed. Vyrna worked at the Antelope Station for 20 years. She then went to work at Kmart until her retirement. Vyrna moved to Florida where she lived with her daughter Lynde. John R. Stevens, 63, of Grand Junction, Colo. passed away September 7th from complications of frontotemperal dementia. John was born in Cheyenne, September 11, 1950 and was raised in Pine Bluffs. He graduated from Pine Bluffs High School in 1968 and attended the University of Wyoming. He was proud of his service in the Navy during his two terms of duty in the Vietnam War. Renner said, “Lee Wymer farmed around Pine Bluffs area in the first half of the twentieth century. After six years of holding onto the traveling trophy, Burns football team played their rival team and insured another year of bragging rights at the Burns Vs. Pine Bluffs football game Friday night. The Pawnee Volleyball team hosted Arickaree Friday and were at Sedgwick County Saturday. On Friday, the Lady Coyotes lost in three games. The Pine Bluffs-Burns Cross Country team had a first full team experience with junior high joining the run at the Gering Invite on Friday at Gering Park. Last week I talked about our soil health tour to North and South Dakota. We looked at all aspects of high quality no-till crop production and grazing practices implemented on farm and ranch lands in the region.
