Good morning! How has your garden grown? We have been blessed with cucumbers, tomatoes, squash, peppers … and my garden did not do very well. Friends gardens have, and I thank them for sharing. I made salsa one day last week, and I am planning on freezing more squash. Well, as I mentioned last week, this is homecoming week at the school, with kids dressed pretty zingy. Quite a few teachers too! The football team will play their third game of the season for the homecoming game Friday against Siou...

For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church Steve Hauer sang “Thank You For Giving To The Lord.” Pastor Opdycke concluded her study on “Think About Eternity.” The scripture was Psalm 73. In this psalm the writer is struggling with the prosperity of the wicked and the troubles of the righteous. But when he goes to the temple of the Lord and draws close to God, everything begins to make sense. He sees that those who stray far away from God will be lost, and those who draw close to G...

Charlene Smith, Pine Bluffs Post staff|Sep 12, 2013

Just days into the process, the Carpenter elementary'svestibule already looked different. Carpenter principal Laurie Bahl said the workers got a lot done the first week. “We like these guys and just might keep them around,” smiled Bahl. The work is estimated to take about six weeks. When completed, principal Bahl’s office will be moved up front with windows to see the entryway, the counselor will be moved to her office, the secretary will have a new office where part of the library was, and t...

The Panhandle No-till Partnership hosted field days in the Sidney, Bridgeport, Berea, and Clinton areas recently. Paul Jasa, UNL Extension Engineer, was able to join us for these field days. Paul has a wealth of knowledge pertaining to all aspects of no-till crop production and I really want to thank Paul for sharing his expertise with our producers. The Burns/Pine Bluffs cross country team has made it through a rebuilding year. Fielding a team that was light from the graduation of six seniors, the 2012 squad competed well finishing third in the state meet and sixth in the ABSARAKA conference. “I was very pleased that they were as competitive as they were and found themselves bringing home a trophy from state placing third overall,” said coach Dustin Lee. “This year we have a larger senior class that we will look to for leadership as they...

The Burns/Pine Bluffs girls cross country team has spent a few years making a name for itself in the ABSARAKA conference and the state. Last year the team ended in fourth place in the conference and took first at state. “Winning the state title for three years in row isn’t an easy task,” said coach Dustin Lee. “It also makes you a mark for teams to try to take down. However our girls will continue working exceptionally hard this season.” Lee acknowledges his team and coaches Cole Manlove a...

Second year Pine Bluffs volleyball head coach Christina Nusbaum has 18 years of coaching experience, and is hoping to use that experience and that of her returning players to garner a winning 2013 season. Laura Fornstrom is also in her second year with the team as assistant coach. The Lady Hornets went 11-16 last year, and did not move past the regional tournament. Nusbaum said her team’s weakness is its youth. “It will take a little time to bring our team along, but our goal is to get bet...

The Pawnee Coyote football team concluded the 2102 season with a 7-3 record and placing second in the conference. They lost the first round of the play-offs to Fleming, the eventual state champ. Eighteen year head coach Doug Miller is hoping his team can do as well this season despite its youth. “We have some good athletes but are very young and inexperienced,” Miller said. The team returns to offensive starters and two defensive starters. The pack lost five seniors to graduation last year, thr...

Pine Bluffs Hornets head coach Will Gray is leading a hungry bunch of players this season — hungry for victory, that is. “We have a bunch of hungry kids who want to be successful,” Gray said. “Our future is going to be very bright.” This despite a difficult 2012 season that saw the Hornets with an 2-0 start that spiraled downward. “To be honest, I don’t remember any of the final scores,” Gray said of last season. “The kids played hard each and every play, but we just ran out of gas and things...
