The Bushnell community is asking for contributions to help upgrade road signs. After the last Village Board Meeting in Bushnell, Norma Szobody, the secretary for the Community Center Board, volunteered to launch a fundraising project to raise money to replace the village's stop signs. Szobody said federal laws requires all villages and cities to have highly reflective signs to enable emergency vehicles to find addresses. This will put Bushnell in compliance with the traffic and street signs....
For years, the giant billboard showing cars working their way down a street through a Wyoming cattle drive was stationed on the busiest highway in New York City. It was figured that this image was seen by millions of frustrated and stranded city-dwellers stuck in stalled traffic. Caption on the billboard read: “Rush Hour in Wyoming.” I was on the travel commission back in the 1990s when our brilliant director Gene Bryan came up with that idea. That image, which was snapped by the late Lan...

Here are some suggestions to help prevent unwanted wildland fires: For Campers, Hunters and Drivers: • If you do not need a fire do not build one. • Use established camp fire rings when available. • Make sure campfires are away from overhanging branches, steep slopes and leaves. • Keep water and a shovel near the campfire. • Douse campfire with wate...

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Judge Amy Berman Jackson remanded gray wolf management in Wyoming to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). “I am disappointed in Judge Berman Jackson’s ruling. Wyoming has been successful in its management of gray wolves. There were more wolves in Wyoming at the end of 2013 than in 2012. Wyoming has managed wolves well above the minimum and buffer population numbers,” Governor Mead said. “Overturning the USFW delisting decision on a technicality highlights Wyoming’s concerns with the Endangered Species Act”. The g...

Sometimes we are gently nudged into trying new dishes. We go to a potluck or football party and put a scoop of unfamiliar on our plate. Sometimes, we are pushed out to a sea of tastes our little buds find too foreign to try again. Columbus Day is Monday. It’s a good time to pack our buds and try some new flavors and dishes. The success of dishes is in good part to how it looks and how easy it is for the preparer. However, much of a dishes chances to be used again is due to its flavor. Columbus came from a land with many spices, seasoning and w...

The Wyoming wind has returned. Now, don’t get too upset. It does have its purpose, like everything in life. Think of the time we would spend shaking all the trees to make the leaves fall without it. Or gathering all those tumbleweeds in our bushes and fences all on our own would be a time consuming chore without our faithful wind. What a nice start to fall we have had, though. The dusting of snow and cooler temperatures for a few days weren’t that terrible. This week was filled with more nic...
