Southeast Laramie county farmers enjoyed the gift of rain from Mother Nature by getting an extra cutting of hay. Not even three days later, over eight inches of snow fell in the Albin area. Pine Bluffs and Burns had a wet mix but not as high of drifts as the northern part of the county....
Police chief Robin Clark spoke to the Pine Bluffs council at their meeting Monday evening about the need of a police records clerk. “This position would be part time and a more technical position rather than a secretary,” Clark explained. Clark reviewed the responsibilities of the clerk, saying they would be responsible for getting criminal records for the citations and compiling reports. She added the clerk must be trained to collect the records and reports and Clark said the employee doi... Full story
After 33 years of one cold case and 16 years for the other, it has always been easy to believe that some unsolved disappearances will just never be explained. In Lander, we have pondered about two gals who vanished. Virginia Uden and Amy Bechtel both disappeared and I wrote the news stories about them while I was the local newspaper editor. Amy is still missing but the horrible fate of Virginia Uden and her two sons is now known. Ironically, both women worked for me at my newspaper. It seemed od...

Have you ever read Aesop's fable about the farmer going out to check on his hens and emotionally yelling when he found a weasel there. The weasel exclaimed, “I wasn't doing anything wrong, just walking by.” The farmer gets yelled at by his wife for riling the dog who woke the baby. And on the story goes, never resting blame on the original source; the weasel who was intending harm yet walked away with no punishment. Isn't that often the case in life. Someone causes a ruckus and stirs doubt, gui...
A tall, quiet thin young man sits across from me as I interviewed the Athlete of the Week, Nolan Brooks. The Burns junior/senior high seventh grader is running for his character and on a large heart of an athlete. Cross country coach Cole Manlove sees it on the grassy fields of the cross country meets every week. “Nolan is a wonderful young man and Dustin (Lee) and I love having him in the program,” said Manlove. “Nolan is a reminder to me that sports isn’t always about winning but really,...

For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church Amy and Renee Martin sang “Healing Stream of Love.” The sermon topic was “Watch What You Say.” God tests our faith by what we say. James Chapter 3 talks about the tongue. If you can control your tongue, you are mature and able to control your whole body. Remember, God hears every word we say. So think before you speak. The congregation burned their burdens then prepared themselves to partake of Holy Communion. After the worship service...

Homecoming at Pine Bluffs was delayed due to the arrival of a winter storm last week. Making up their game against the Lusk Tigers on Monday afternoon, the Hornets found themselves in a seriously uneven match up as Lusk took home at 54-0 victory. “Obviously we couldn’t anything right on offense,” Hornets’ head coach Will Gray said. “We couldn’t block, throw, or catch. If we can’t move the ball then we are on defense the entire game, and that kills us from a fatigue and confidence standpoint....
Well. Weather was definitely the main topic, the ruling force in our lives this past week. I had planned on being out of town that weekend so I was on my computer with my friend the Weather Bug quite often. He kept warning of the nasty stuff to come so I planned on leaving earlier to out run the snow. The place that I was running to just happened to be where some of the heaviest snow landed, South Dakota. The retreat was cancelled. Ayden and I and many others were extremely disappointed, but we...

Forty thousand frenzied fans saw the Philadelphia Athletics sweep through the defense of the New York Giants for an earned 6 to victory in the opening...
