    Polly Taylor|Oct 15, 2015

Monday night’s meeting of the Laramie County School District 2 Board of Trustees seemed to center around the recent termination of Dustin Seger, principal at Carpenter Elementary School. Seger was notified Friday, and new superintendent, Jon Abrams, notified students and staff on Monday, which resulted in the parents of about 10 percent of the Carpenter student body to be...

  • Letter to the Editor

    Oct 15, 2015

Dear Editor; Something seems to be broken in Laramie County School District #2. Monday afternoon, I discovered that Mr. Seger, the principal of Carpenter Elementary, had been fired. I was flabbergasted, since from a parental viewpoint, he had been doing an excellent job. My two boys love school, and having had the dubious honor of multiple principal-to-parent conversations because of their minor infractions, it is obvious that Mr. Seger has the children’s best interests in mind. In the last year and a half, he has become an integral and w...

  • One bright spot in economy is glowing

    Bill Sniffin|Oct 15, 2015

In the past six months, the energy economy in Wyoming has taken some serious hits leaving folks from Gillette to Rock Springs and Cheyenne to Cody nervous and pessimistic. Even Gov. Matt Mead has responded by saying he anticipates implementing $200 million in budget cuts now and during the upcoming legislative budget session. But all is not so dim when it comes to the state economy. In fact the one aspect of Wyoming’s economy that is bright is so bright, it is positively blinding. Tourism, t...

  • Runners respond well at Cheyenne-Leroy Sprague

    Oct 15, 2015

Generally, the weather is unpleasant for the Leroy Sprague cross country race in Cheyenne, but this year it was fantastic! You can’t ask for better weather when running 3.1 miles. Our runners once again responded well to the conditions and had some great times. This course is a little tougher than the past few we have run so it was good to see the times we saw. It is also great to get on a tougher course because we will be on a very tough course in Hulett, WY for our final regular season race before state. The junior high runners ran two m...

  • No Till Notes: Managing Your Bucket

    Mark Watson, Panhandle No-Till Educator|Oct 15, 2015

One of the best visualizations I've heard for managing your soil moisture and the precipitation you receive is to compare your soil's moisture holding capacity to a bucket. The size of your bucket depends on the soil texture, organic matter content, and soil structure. With good surface residues you can get the precipitation you receive to infiltrate the soil and start filling the bucket. If you have good soil structure you can get the moisture to the bottom of the bucket, and if you have good...

  • Banner County News

    Barb Cross|Oct 15, 2015

Good morning Banner County. As I sit here this beautiful fall morning the wind is still doing its thing, but not as much as it was last Sunday. Sunday afternoon it filled one of our buildings with those little weeds that I call tumble weed want-a-be's. They are much smaller and not as spiky, but are a nuisance and plentiful. They were traveling east in the pasture, but a thousand or so managed to find their way into my yard. Bless them, now I have something to do! Just because fall is...

  • Albin News

    Charlene Smith|Oct 15, 2015

Wasn’t it just yesterday when we were mowing our lawns? This week, it seemed like the deck was camouflaged with dry yellow leaves. The time is coming for coats, shovels and very short days. Mother Nature must enjoy taunting us with longer summers, fooling us into thinking it might just last until December. Eighty five years ago, Albin was watching the same seasons change under their brand new town. Incorporated and named as a community in Laramie County, Wyoming, the small community of f...

  • From the Kitchen of Crabbie Abner

    Oct 15, 2015

Sure wish Mother Nature would make up her mind and decide whether we are going to be perpetually stuck with an Indian Summer, or whether the weather is going to progress completely into fall. Either way, I've already started cooking up some of my fall favorites, and again I'm going to share something sweet, and something savory, and both use fresh produce and ingredients that you probably already have in your cupboards. First off, I've been an apple butter lover since my mother first introduced me to it as a small crab...gotta love moms and...
