    Submitted|Oct 31, 2013

Cheyenne Matthews receives a trophy taller than she is at the 2013 TSDR Motocross Awards Banquet held in Mitchell, NE Oct. 26. Even though the 2013 TSDR Motocross season brought a couple of bad injury wrecks to the Pine Bluffs teenager, she still battled on to a 12 point victory in the Championship Series. Matthews has been racing motorcycles since she was 6 years old and she is also the 2011 TSDR Motocross Women's C Champion. This B Class Championship puts Chey at the top of Women's Amateur Mot...

For the special this week at the Hereford Community Church Kathy Zitek read a story from "Anecdotes" by Verl Timm about a sunrise service at the Church. The sermon title was "God Communicates With Us." We see in the Bible that God began communicating with people back in Genesis Chapter 3, and he has been communicating with people ever since. Psalm 19 tells some of the ways God communicates with people. God wants to talk with us. If you seek Him with all your heart, you can expect to hear from Go...

Happy Halloween! Make sure you remember all those little ghouls and princesses out there and drive safe. Oh, and remember to leave some candy out. I'll be by later to trick you out of some. Oct 31, 2013

1 years ago Today nearly every city and village along the old "Overland Trail" through Nebraska and Wyoming is celebrating the official opening of the Lincoln Highway. The route passed directly through Pine Bluffs, and at this place is only a few hundred feet from the old trail. The Pine Bluffs Methodist Episcopal church stands in the old original "Trail" and it would be a fitting tribute to the old travelers of the "Overland Trail" should a special service be held in that edifice this...

  • It's time to protect your - access

    Cynthia Shroyer|Oct 31, 2013

In this day and age people are clamoring for access. They want access to every bit of information about every person they know and know of. Google and Wikipedia and Bing all offer scads of information, be it accurate or not. We have Access Hollywood and the worst I think I have seen — TMZ, a mocking show bent toward making people look bad. We flock to CNN or MSNBC or FoxNews to get the latest report about who is dead, in jail, in court. We get angry when not enough is told, when the photos a...

    Submitted|Oct 31, 2013

Wyoming Livestock Board staff veterinarians have announced that two cases of the neurologic form of Equine Herpes Virus Type 1 (EHV-1) have recently been discovered in northwestern Wyoming. One of them occurred in Teton County, the other in Park County. A total of seven horses were affected by the disease, one of which had to be euthanized. The remaining infected and exposed horses have been placed under quarantine. It has been determined by the staff veterinarians that the two incidents are unrelated. No new cases have been reported since the...

  • No-till notes "Wheat stem sawfly"

    Mark Watson|Oct 31, 2013

As I mentioned in a previous article I had a nice visit with Dr. Jeff Bradshaw about the wheat stem sawfly. Dr. Bradshaw has since sent me an article about the wheat stem sawfly and some management practices producers may want to consider for their own operations to begin combating the presence of this insect in their winter wheat production practices. The following is the article Dr. Bradshaw was kind enough to send to me. “A NEW RESURGENCE OF AN OLD PEST OF WHEAT: WHEAT STEM SAWFLY Jeff B...

  • No-till notes "Water funding task force"

    Mark Watson|Oct 31, 2013

Last week I was invited to speak to the Nebraska Water Funding Task Force. The NWFTF met in the morning for presentations by John Berge, general manager of the North Platte NRD, Pat O’Brien, general manager of the Upper Niobrara White NRD, and Steve Sibray, hydrogeologist with the University of Nebraska Panhandle Research and Extension Center. After the presentations we boarded a bus and traveled to the Ginn sugar beet facility to learn about the sugar beet industry in Box Butte County. We a...
